I agree with Bvute, but it is also administrations fault for the way they are paid. I have said it before our top players are not hungry to perform. At the World cup they were all offered a hugh salary just to compete. If you feed a donkey before the trip it won't perform but if you dangle the carrot in front you will get the best out of it. The players basic salary should have been cut and incentives given to the degree if they had performed very well they would have recieve even more than what they got and a bad performance would have resulted in a minimum package. This should not only be for the players but also Management, selectors and coaches. This should also apply at franchise level.
They're almost the lowest-paid amongst the Full Members - I doubt overpaying them is the issue here. But it does seem to be a quote that's been taken out if context from the rest of what was said.
I think Bvute is rather scrapping the surface here . Giving players money is not an issue , but having a bigger pool of players chasing after the same spot will be a motivation to a player. Did you see how we struggled to replace the opening berth left vacant by Hamilton Masakadza'a loss of form . If ZC had their house in order , that is of blooding new talent and maturing it in Franchise systems , with regular internationals , then the world cup woes will be over .
If we have more players stepping up then the better . Besides Zim has players all around the world that we lost during the madness days of Chingoka and Bvute . If he is serious about revving this Zim national team he has to ship out first .Having Saul-Paul character from him is highly unlikey.
Haha having not followed zim cricket for ages as I now live in the uk reading this really makes me laugh as it sounds like bvute hasn't changed in all these years... Funny reading though...
I'm beginning to question the notion that we underperformed and if that's going to be the basis of cutting wages/salaries then that makes me sad. It's only been two years and I think the rebuilding phase needs more patience from everyone. Mpofu, one of those from a poor background, has vastly improved under the more professional tutelage he has these days and so he renders Bvute's assertion moot. Besides, I didn't read the quotes as wages being cut, just that there's potential Bvute is thinking about it.
