HARARE - National cricket team put up a splendid batting and bowling performance to dismiss Zimbabwe A by six wickets in a limited overs practice match yesterday.

Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor followed up his series winning performance in Zimbabwe’s nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the Pran RFL Triangular last month by going a gear up, hitting 109 runs not out.

After batting first, the Zim A totalled 241 runs for the loss of nine wickets, benefitting largely from dropped catches by their seniors who put down a total of five catches in their innings.

The senior team reached the target inside 43.1 overs scoring 242 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Stuart Matsikenyeri played a complementary role to his captain Taylor with an unbeaten half century, 53 runs.

Hamilton Masakadza laid the foundation earlier on with 55 runs before he was caught behind the stumps by wicketkeeper Regis Chakabva off the bowling of spinner Tafadzwa Kamungozi.

Kamungozi finished with the best figures of two wickets for 37 runs in 8.1 overs while seamers Njabulo Ncube and Tendai Chatara took a wicket each for 37 and 50 runs, respectively.

Earlier, experienced left arm orthodox Price returned to the game with a bang emerging as the senior team’s best bowler with four wickets for 52 runs in his 10- overs spell.

Price missed the triangular series involving South Africa and Bangladesh last month due to a persistent back injury.

Strike bowler Kyle Jarvis picked three wickets for 35 runs in nine overs while Prosper Utseya took two wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs.

Zim A’s Craig Ervine top scored with 57 runs before he was trapped leg before wicket by Brian Vitori.

Regis Chakabva contributed 34 runs but was clean bowled by Utseya while captain Tino Mawoyo was caught for 30 runs by Malcolm Waller off Price’s bowling.

The game was being used as part of the Zim A’s preparations for the upcoming A sides tri-series involving South A and Sri Lanka A that begin at Harare Sports Club on July 11.][/quote]
