Opening post

I know this is for ZC only but I wanted other people opinion on the shambolic performance of South Africa.

Apparently they now have to field 7 players of colour in the side, with three being black African.

Ngidi, Bavuma and Rabada are all there, yet both the Hendricks make the sides. Two of the most over rated cricketers and blatant quota selections ever.

You have Jannaman Malan and Kyle Verryene in the squad who can’t get a game, yet they have to select inferior players based on race.

I actually think this might be the end of a competitive South Africa cricket team. I don’t see how they can compete when they play cricketers like Hendricks and, because of politics, have to ignore guys like Coetzee, Muelder and Malan.

😂 😂

Too true! Brits go on about London being 'lost' and 'unsafe' or whatever 😂 😂 Try walking through Joburg CBD and coming out alive. Last time I passed through about 2 years ago I've never felt so unsafe anywhere in the world in all my life.

Makes Harare feel like Singapore.

Used to work with a murungu from joburg. Casually racist but no hate from him.

Old Duanne Oliver in the SA emerging XI tour to NZ? Man his stock has fallen or he’s committed to CSA and not whoring himself out to the SA IPL. Cape Town bloody Mumbai Indians indeed :?

Quite interesting to see how this Proteas squad does against New Zealand. Bowling attack actually looks quite decent so far with Dane Paterson, Duanne Olivier (remarkable to see him without a T20 contract somewhere), and Tshepo Moreki who I haven't seen before. The team has nothing to lose and all the pressure is on a NZ team that has looked fragile in test cricket lately.
My All-time Zimbabwe XI
Neil Johnson, Brendan Taylor, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), David Houghton, Sean Williams, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Paul Strang, Eddo Brandes, Blessing Muzarabani

I think South Africa may yet pose a good challenge to NZ. As I write this NZ are 125/2 at Tea. Some players have a good chance to stake a claim in the side. Esp the batters because we've seen South African batting to be very vulnerable and atm there are lot of batting spots up for grabs.

Brand, Hamza, Bedingham, Keegan, Tonder all have a lot to play for.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Bedingham is a really good batsman.

Olivier has really regressed. 76mph lolly pops. The country system really did ruin him when he was a Kolpak.

County system really does seem to pour water on spicy bowlers

We saw it with Jarvis too

Does anyone come back from country cricket a better bowler?

my theory is the county system moulds bowlers for county conditions and county only.

They probably are better bowlers within that fishbowl but worse off beyond it.

Olivier went badly in county cricket overall though. By the end of his contract, he was mainly in Yorkshire's 2s. He definitely wasn't moulded into a really good County Championship bowler. Dane Paterson is currently a very successful county bowler though.

Proteas have put up a much better fight in this second test, could still possibly win it, although will need some Piedt magic.

Just realized after reading an article on cricinfo that Rabada is the only black African selected in South Africa's squad for The T20 WC 2024!

5 other players of color are selected, so it's a total of 6 players all of whom will make the squad even on merit.

Given that South Africa officially have transformation targets, this is a bold step.

Can we possibly see 9 white players selected in a Zimbabwe squad anytime in future, if all of them deserve a place on merit? That will be interesting to see because Zimbabwe don't have any official transformation targets.

The sack the transformation targets off for a World Cup because they want the best chance of winning, they’ll be back for meaningless bilateral’s though. Shows how much faith they really have in the system.

Yeah, it could be possible. Ervine, Williams, Burl, Campbell, Bennett, Evans, N Welch, B Curran - That's 8 players who could genuinely be inline for 2027 WC selection... And that's without considering the Asian origin players like Raza, Naqvi, Akram who could also be in the running.

Realistically, even if we rule out B Curran, the other 7 are very much a possibility to be a part of the squad or even the playing XI.

Agreed, but still a bold step.

Ya, agreed bro! A sole black man in the squad 30 years on from re admission is very bold indeed 😂 bizarre really.

Ervine, Burl, Williams, Campbell x 2 , Evans, Bennett, James, Welch x 2, Schardendorf (possibly another coming?),

Macmillan?, Schonken, Curran, BT (?).

Ballance if tobacco gets hit by hail.

Byrom if he jacks it in in UK

Eksteen? He was not as sharp as I'd been told but he might be a late bloomer.

Maybe one or two more mystery guys will pop out the woodwork? When Barney Rogers son gets to about 12 he'll play for Zim Mens (genius kid) 😂

Viljoen's boy will probably be quite sharp when he gets older.

Amongst the Indian/Pakistani guys the better guys are

Ali Hamid (good player), Ronak Patel, Faraz, Raza, and a couple of others.

There's also Knackers.

Ya there's suddenly a few settlers, colonizers and shop keepers in franchise or on the periphery.

If they're going to look after some older guys next season so they dont have to sell Buddy cards at the street lights there's actually room for a 6th franchise.

Realistically there's room for about 4 maybe 5 lighter skinned guys, at a push, before we see some shenanigans.

Whilst Ervine, Raza, Williams and possibly BT are around there will be a couple of guys that will have to bide their time, but once they're gone the "selectors/gatekeepers will be able to pick our best eleven.

There will be repercussions, recriminations and disgruntlement over that SA squad, mark my words.

Playing out of Vic Falls naturally and will take many business trips to get off the ground 😂 😂

I feel outraged at the cultural misappropriation of Raza and Faraz being lumped in with us murungu 😂 they deserve their own none existent quota classification.

Is it though?

The targets only say 3 black blacks if I recall correctly.

They are still adhering to the coloured targets.
