Opening post

I know this is for ZC only but I wanted other people opinion on the shambolic performance of South Africa.

Apparently they now have to field 7 players of colour in the side, with three being black African.

Ngidi, Bavuma and Rabada are all there, yet both the Hendricks make the sides. Two of the most over rated cricketers and blatant quota selections ever.

You have Jannaman Malan and Kyle Verryene in the squad who can’t get a game, yet they have to select inferior players based on race.

I actually think this might be the end of a competitive South Africa cricket team. I don’t see how they can compete when they play cricketers like Hendricks and, because of politics, have to ignore guys like Coetzee, Muelder and Malan.

Zubayr Hamza has been banned for 9 months by the ICC for taking a banned substance, backdated to 22nd march, although they do agree that there was no intention or negligence on his part.

South Africa playing only 4 coloured players today against India, it has pretty much been the trend and proteas have been very casual on transformation tarhets and have instead gone with merit.

Something for Zimbabawe to think about, ofcourse there is no official quota in Zimbabwe, but we all know there have been lesser and lesser whites playing.

Some of the SA guys you think are white actually qualify as colored due to some mixed family history they claim. I think QdK is ‘colored’.

Anyway, there’s only actually 5 white players playing professionally in Zimbabwe so I don’t think it’s as big an issue at national selection level really. The problems are further down the system and due to the policies of the past when we did have quotas and major race issues

Also I think the SA quota policy is now based on an annual average, so they can pick some XI’s as more white as long as it’s balanced out in other games

I think if any of us do that gene/DNA ancestry thing we'd be surprised.

I read an interesting article that showed the Scots to be very diverse because they're on the tip of the island and at some point people migrated through there and that was as far as they could get. The fascinating part was that some had Aboriginal ancestry and they'd always wrongly assumed that the Aboriginals have been permanently stuck on island Australia.

Well I’m scottish via my mother, maybe I’m an aboriginal at some point!! 😂 handy if I fancied playing cricket for SA! (I qualify for SA) 😂

I think I’m eligible for Zim, SA, Scotland and possibly England depending on the ECB. Should have stuck with cricket when I was younger :D

That's the interesting part- a lot of this stuff is political expedience. There's probably an SA (and Zim?) Law that states you can't claim black heritage beyond probably second generation yet the science will tell a different story.

It's the same with migration. The Bantu were not from Southern Africa originally, the San are the rightful owners, savagely displaced not that long ago, but that's very inconvenient 😂

There's some crazy stuff going on twitter at the moment, our rulers stirring the pot pre-election and its backfiring badly.
Very much enjoyed that chase today - Rassie van der Dussen and Miller are really coming to their own as white ball players these last couple years, unreal to see.

Plus how nice is this current Castore T20 kit

Telling you now, all its going to take for South Africa to become the best ODI side in the world is mindset. When they go out and play like that, it shows much dangerous they are and how they can absolutely flatten an attack. I was so pleased to see Stubbs in there too. What a talent he is. I was so shocked! Normally in the T20 format l there's some rogue quota selection. Not today though, every player deserved to be in there didn't they
I'm normally quite critical of parnell but he bowled nicely and provided variation - I'd still rather see Marco jansen than him but his time will come I'm sure.

Lots of pressure on Bavuma as usual but he is a quality player and I'm sure he will come good this series

Well here's an interesting bit of news-

Six of the IPL franchise owners have made successful bids to own the 6 SA franchise teams in their up and coming T20 league!

This has to be great news for CSA. They've got loads of cash and know how to run a team, but there are many twists and turns coming. I wonder who the losing bidders were, what the amounts were, how long this buys ownership for and whether there were any local bids.

This year's Lanka Premier League is already cancelled. Soon a lot more random T20 leagues will face bankruptcy and i won't have any sympathy for them at all
ZCF Hall of Famer
I'm all for any leagues in the lesser cricketing countries where the players can earn some extra cash. They get seriously taken advantage of by their boards.

So its effectively an IPL league based in South Africa?

I don't think any other country can sustain a T20 league in the way they want to when going up against the IPL, without having IPL owners or backing.

England and Australia are perhaps the only ones that can get away with it, but even in Aus, BBL are currently owned by the state organisations which limits their monetary power. There is a push to make them privately owned.

South Africa bossed England yesterday. They have such a strong batting line up right now. Malan up top has been sensational. Rassie is averaging in the 70's in ODI cricket and then you've got Markram and Miller in the middle overs. Team on the up, for sure. They're jelling so well

They are my favourites already

That was a really surprising outcome for me. My money is on England coming back strong. The odds of Stokes, Buttler, Livingstone and Ali making nothing between them are slim.

Prior to that Root, Bairstow and Roy didn't fire 😂

I wonder who's now replacing Stokes?
I think it will likely be Phil Salt and maybe Harry Brook going forward.

What more Janneman has yo do to get a crack with the red ball is beyond me. He is very much like aiden markram was early in his test career I feel.

Wiaan Mulder has been scoring some big boy runs the last couple weeks in the CC
