Opening post

I know this is for ZC only but I wanted other people opinion on the shambolic performance of South Africa.

Apparently they now have to field 7 players of colour in the side, with three being black African.

Ngidi, Bavuma and Rabada are all there, yet both the Hendricks make the sides. Two of the most over rated cricketers and blatant quota selections ever.

You have Jannaman Malan and Kyle Verryene in the squad who can’t get a game, yet they have to select inferior players based on race.

I actually think this might be the end of a competitive South Africa cricket team. I don’t see how they can compete when they play cricketers like Hendricks and, because of politics, have to ignore guys like Coetzee, Muelder and Malan.

I remember Steyn and DeVilliers test debut like it was yesterday.

The papers had been talking about this young electric quick bowler and the next Barry Richards with the bat. I remember getting up really early as a kid to watch that match and was mesmerised by Steyn. He just steamed in and looked to bowl as fast as he could, every single ball. He bowled Trescothick and Vaughn with two absolute gems.

Back then there was more emphasis on test cricket and ODI cricket and I think the quality was much higher. Happy memories.

Makes me feel really old :(

Steyn is one of the finest quicks in cricket history. And apart from Marshall probably the only one under 6 feet tall. He averaged 22 in an era when all other fast bowlers averaged 30 or more. Compared to the current era where all the major teams have quicks averaging 25-27 or less now (Shaheen, Bumrah, Holder, Cummins, Hazlewood, Boult, Southee, Wagner, Roach, Anderson).

I expect Steyn to get announced as a youth coach fairly soon. No chance SA will let him not try and pass on his trade. One of the most lethal bowlers in world cricket. He was super fast, but man was he accurate too.

With our current coaching situation, I'd be throwing the book at him, especially if we can get Gary or Grant as the main coach, but I feel like ZC will not think that way. I can see Hondo and Matsi staying on even if Rajput goes.

Seen a couple of usually pro-ZC journos specifically criticising Hondo & Matsi in the past week or two including Mehluli and a radio guy. So fingers crossed they are out the door along with Rajput.

I too, think thats why they are gone.

Hondo and Matsi might be 'in the club' but with the boards directive to Hammy about overnight improvement, it is now a case of 'them or me'.

Imagine Grant & Steyn, maybe plus Makunura for the local knowledge and the youngsters he's brought through. What a great trio that would be.

i brought up Steyn 6 months back and was laughed at, but he is very attainable.

Just noticed that Markram averages 29 after 33 ODIs and Reeza, who somehow keeps getting selected averages 26 after 22 ODIs. While I understand they will lose their places once De Kock, Bavuma and Miller return, surely there are better back up players in South Africa who deserve a chance.

The likes of Hamza, De Zorzi should get a look in. Verreynne hasn't taken his chances but can be given a longer rope esp when Markram and Reeza have got so many chances.

A new du Plessis in the house for proteas innings of 69 out of 39 in CSA Provincial T20 turnd to be match winning for South Western Districts

I just noticed Zubayr Hamza is in some form too 106, 0 and now a 62.. He is a definate upgrade over Reeza. I'm so dissappointed that Verreynne hasn't taken his chances at intl level, hopefully he will score big the next time.

He just scored one of the best T20 hundreds I have ever seen on TV in their domestic league. Incredible..
Legend
His last 2 sixes he literally has 1 leg behind the stumps (just slightly past his off stump) waiting for the slower ball. Burl is a leftie and I think that could work really well for him because of his preferred hitting arch. Just gives him enough space
ZCF Hall of Famer
Rossouw is killing it. Parnell is hitting it quite sweetly as well.

Big question, are South Africa ready to go back to them?

Not u Taps 😂 , I meant anyone that thinks this quota bullshit is OK. Makes my blood boil.

I definitely don't think quotas are the way to do it and it's not a problem that can be fixed overnight. It's about to reach a boiling point I think. They will not budge so they have put the pressure on QDK. Is he willing to sacrifice his international career over this? Will others walk away with him? I highly doubt it. A lot of lessons were learnt from the Zim walkout and I doubt we will ever see one like that again. I don't think the SA players are as united as the 04 zim crew.

I found it interesting that Pommie didn't sound too pleased as well. The most interesting thing is that QDK seems to have a lot of Indian sympathisers 😂
Legend
The SA player pool is also huge. Somebody will replace him. They won't be as good as him but they won't take the game backwards to the low point we reached.
