The boy I'd brilliant. Absolutely brilliant!

Him and Chakabva will form the spine of Zimbabwe cricket for a long time to come.

The only difference with Mutombodzi is that he will fit into all formats, plus he's and experienced and accomplished leaderand captain at u19, domestic - FC, List A and Twenty20, Li's A/XI level. Most importantly, he can still bowl quite well.

ZIM hasn't produced many good middle order players in a long time, and he's right at the very top of the list.

On a different note, good to see Handirisi and Gumbie getting back into a bit of form. I don't understand them opening though. But they are good players.

ZIM has had plenty that have stuck around. It's a pity the game in ZIM is dead, so many jqbe to really focus on their List A and Twenty20 game.

As sad as this sound, the Logan Cup no longebhas relevance, and won't for a long time to come, or ever thanks to the Pakistani.

NB: The big question now is what is Kyle Jarvis's relevance to Zimbabwe? I don't see him getting a red shirt on merit ahead of:

Chatara

Shingi

Mpofu

Tiripano

Madziva

Chisoro

Wellington

Cremer

Plus other challengers coming through the ranks.

I'm a way, ZIM's situation has turned cricket into a specialist career. Guys like Sauramba, Muzhange, Zhuwao, Timecyn Maruma, Nathan Waller, Roy Kaia (where's Mark Mbofana) etc are about to become more relevant.

People are about to appreciate why Prosper Utseya was easily Zimbabwe's most important player and first names in the sheet during he Test wilderness years.

Don't be surprised to see a Chisoro, Madziva or Wellington being the same and being more crucial than a Hami or Taylor or Chatara. All the more reason why Chigumbura's career is far from done too.

What can't be denied is that the happiest Zimbabwean cricketer right now is Solomon Mire. Can a Nathan Waller or Mutombodzi appreciate that too? Mavuta and Mashinge seem to be doing so.

Before things went south officially, Byron was worth gettim more than Taypr an Jarivs. As things stand whoever woos Ed "Trevor Gripper" Byron deserves to be sacked! Sean Ervine is looking more attractive than Kyle Jarvis right now too.

Mutombodzi performance has limitation. He can't go beyond, got many chances but failed.

Mutombodzi is one of the very very few guys in the domestic scene who can go to the middle and start rotating the strike right away. Almost everyone in our setup has either massive footwork issues (Ervine / Taylor / Burl) or piercing the gap issues (Chamu / Moor / Regis / Hamilton) early on in their innings.

Mutombodzi, Williams and Musakanda are probably the only ones who can get going right away. But Williams has his history of major batting contributions coming only when the horse has bolted and Musakanda has been throwing away starts putting even legendary Vusi to shame. Waller is probably in this list of strike rotators too but he is so obsessively idiotic or overestimates his own capabilities that he throws it away in spectacular fashion well before he is set. Given all this, an in form Mutombodzi is a definite need for our ODI middle order.

Yes. He's an excellent middle order batsman. More Taibu-like than Williams though. Musakanda is more technically accurate than Mutombodzi, but he's disadvantage is that he hasn't played enough cricket. Lots of improvement required.

Sooner or later someone is going to have to admit that Williams needs a lot of technical help. Sad thing is, so do Taylor, Chamu and Ervine now too. What is Heath Streak doing about it. Surelghey could ask for a batting specialist like maybe Gibbs or Prince to come through.

Mutombodzi's omission from the recent A tour was odd... Surely he can't be considered to be that far down the pecking order?

And Shingi gets there in grand style, with his 11th :6: of the innings. 2nd FC century. He got his 300th FC wicket in this match too. 3 runs away from 2000th FC runs as well. A match of milestones for him.

EDIT: And there comes the 2000 FC runs too.
