Surely you could have acknowledged that I was completely right?

Opening post

1. "What we quickly realised was that hosting Tests is something that costs us a lot of money, and that is a commodity we do not have at the moment" ZC's recently appointed MD Faisal Hasnain told ESPNcricinfo. "As things stand, it costs us money because we get almost negligible amounts from our current TV rights and sponsorships, and these continue till 2019. We will concentrate on playing more ODIs and T20s, home and away, under the ODI league and the T20 open format, which will hopefully enable us to cut expenditure and potentially generate greater revenues."

Any Zimbabwean fan could have told you that Sherlock. Proved just how inadequate and underprepared you were for the role. Imagine a CEO saying this within months of his/her appointment. I told you he’s downright incompetent.

2. source the ICC Test fund no longer exists

3. … to play Tests at home … we just would not be able to sustain it financially, unless we get substantial help from the ICC or from some other source - and other funding sources are few and far between.

So why exactly did you abandon India? To get what from the ICC? I told you they are not getting anything from the ICC.

4. Crucial to their quest to better financial health is income from the ICC, in the form of distribution and World Cup participation fees, which makes qualification for the 2019 event even more important.

I told you that without qualification they will only get that money if they qualify for the CWC. I also told you they’ve flushed money down the drain for an event that they 99% will not qualify for.

5. Zimbabwe has embarked on an ambitious project to convince certain players who had left the country to return, but the flipside of that has been the toll it has taken on their finances.

I told you that the money spent on these players will hurt the organisation badly. All of you forget things like the costs of insurance, fees of drafting such complicated and stupid contracts etc.

6. Both Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis are being paid more than they were at Nottinghamshire and Lancashire respectively, and were also given a small portion as an advance to secure their return. Solomon Mire, based in Australia, received what one source said was a "good deal, better than that of the other players who have stayed behind".

I told you this was extremely bad busniness with the returns NEVER EVER going to justify the means. Precisely because ZC knew well in advance of doing this that Tests were no longer relevant. Wait till Jarvis players ODIs & T20s. Then he will really look like an absolute waste of money and a thoroughly stupid decision by extremely stupid and incompetent fools!!!

7. Unsurprisingly, the treatment of the trio has created issues within the team. "Players who come back automatically get paid more than the guys who are there," one source said. "It's bad because there are players who have made sacrifices to stay in Zimbabwe and they are suffering."

It’s pretty clear that these new players are not really worth that much more than the players who remained and time will back that up entirely. Let’s see how much better they will do against Afghanistan than those who remained.

8. … employee and player salaries … part-paid at the end of October because of the financial challenges their board faces

Again it was silly of you here to try and deflect this. You said it was ok, only Admin not getting paid. Then again argued that it was temporary and they were waiting for funds to filter through from the ICC so they could get paid in full. You were in denial about a totally obvious situation. For what?

9. Zimbabwe's players have yet to receive their match fees for the Sri Lanka tour that took place in July.

So playing away is cheaper, and that’s your strategy, but even after you’ve played away you still can’t play players. How will it work out better in future when all Tests are away? Match fees will get paid? In any event players were never going to get paid October salaries with match fees outstanding from July.

10. A proposed increase in player allowance for this season's domestic matches has also not come to pass.

They offered domestic players an increase despite knowing they won’t be able to afford it. Standard Pakistani behaviour. In any even if Aliseni thought it wasn’t worth it then even that increase was an insult.

11. At least one board member is understood to have opposed the efforts to lure Taylor, Jarvis and Mire back because of the expense

This man(men?) is the biggest hero of cricket in Zimbabwe. He single-handedly tried to avoid the death of cricket in Zimbabwe. A side already going to fall behind other Associates in ODIs, and already behind a number of them in T20s has killed the game in Zimbabwe without providing solutions to that situation.

12. the prospect of having them in the team for the World Cup qualifiers motivated ZC to do "everything it could", according to the source, to convince the players to commit to Zimbabwe.

All the more reason why mass resignation and civil suits should happen WHEN they fail to qualify, and ZC should abandon the contracts because they neglected to include the definite performance clause to justify the expense. Whatever you think of them, Bvute and Chingoka would never have been this stupid.

13. the limited opportunities to raise money that will not be easy.

Again gutter journalism, and still no mention of India. Income from India used to be able to help ZC host Tests plus pay huge chunks of the Loan to reduce interest. Financials will definitely show that this loan has actually skyrocketed like never before in just the short stint of this Pakistani. They will prove that he has allowed it to balloon.

14. ICC money will be an important source of income and rationalisation of costs will have to continue. With no Test ranking points for Zimbabwe to concern themselves with, there would appear to be sense in not hosting home Tests. So even though they will not abandon Tests altogether, this could lead to a fundamental shift in outlook and the way they position themselves as a cricketing nation.

I told you cricket in Zimbabwe was dead. . Why rationalise costs if you’re “loaded” after the new ICC bumper deal to reduce India's cut for your benefit? Why ditch the Tests you can now afford? Unless you were duped?

15. In that light, it is not outlandish to wonder whether West Indies might have been the last team that will play a Test in Zimbabwe for a while. According to the current FTP, Zimbabwe are scheduled to host Pakistan for a two-Test series next year in June-July, a tour which also includes three ODIs and two T20Is. Preceding that, Australia visit for a tour that was originally scheduled to include two Tests, but no longer does; instead they will feature in a T20I tri-series alongside Pakistan

.So these guys are smarter than the old management hey. They found a way to avoid substituting Tests for LOIs?

16. The Logan Cup, Zimbabwe's first-class competition, for example, may be shortened from its current format - in which teams play each other in a double round - to a single round, and there could be an increase in domestic ODI and T20 competitions.

Indeed, cricket in Zimbabwe is well and truly dead!

---

The one thing that I never expected was for forumites to go on the defensive and be in denial. Right in front of your eyes, in broad daylight, decisions were made to literally kill cricket in Zimbabwe, and the one place that you would expect to swiftly pick this up and start online petitions to block certain decisions and demand the dismissal of certain people actually gave praises instead. Mind boggling! I read somewhere that ZCF will be celebrating 10 years, and the sentiments as all of this was unfolding were extremely disappointing.

Years from now you will read this forum online and ask yourselves, how on earth did we miss this. This forum was supposed to be the catalyst to prevent such from happening, open people's eyes. To read people trying to shift blame to the past and years of mismanagement only serves to make things worse. Potentially you could be starring at a well thought out and well planned strategy to kill of Zimbabwe cricket, with some people complicit but you're shifting blame. This was not an organic death. This was murder of the highest degree. Malicious, willful and premeditated. But it was also a perfect murder because "ZC did everything it could" to avoid the death of cricket in Zimbabwe. Even better, they fed the "Rising Stars" an overdose of One Day cricket only! A precursor for their future!

This is all going to get even nastier and uglier. The journalists are still avoiding the ICC deal regarding the support towards the loan, the loan still standing and its status, plus India (BCCI). It will get even worse because of player discontent.

Whether you like it or not cricket in Zimbabwe is very dead now. More than it has ever been. Another point that you denied when I said it because at least back then ZC took the step of its own volition because ICC had no legal basis to force them to do so, plus ZIM knew they were still in control and could get back whenever they set their minds to it.

ZIM is not marketable. So revenue will actually decrease not increase - be it sponsorship or TV Rights deals. Their LOI results won't get any better. They stand a greater chance of dropping further down the rankings than rising.

In an nutshell, they are doomed, and I can assure you when the figures are finally released, what Firdose Moonda reported as "a small portion as an advance to secure their return" will actually turn out to not be so small because Brendan and Kyle would not have been so stupid to return if all of this was fully disclosed to them which it wasn't plus ZC had no legal obligation to, and the amount of money they received in advance actually means it's substantial enough for them to be too indebted to ZC so much that they won't be able to challenge or leave without having to face the prospect of buying themselves out of the contracts.

Most of you will try to discredit what I'm saying and deflect again refusing to appreciate the total uniqueness of this situation. However, like Liam, Tristan and Firdose, they too will inevitably be forced to gradually reveal the truth. They are so far out of their depth as far as this is concerned that they are literally being forced to put their names against every embarrassing " exposé "! So it'll be easy for you to do so from the comfort of the forum, but for them, they will have to endure the discomfort professionally.

😂 Neil Johnson and Murray Goodwin left! Are we all going to continue believing that the former left because he was aloof, and the latter left because he didn't wear the pants at home?

Facts dont need proving. At any rate, its a tragically moot point since ZIM wont be playing Tests come 2019.

I am asking for enough honesty for the conservative to not pretend that they give a s**t about a woman who is not their immediate relative.

The last video I saw of a poor girl being stoned, literally shook me for days. I try to campaign against this sort of thing, but its very hard when people closer and in better position to influence the culture come back with 'but, but.... this and that' rather than get on board completely. If they were, enough reform would have happened to have ended this by now.

Kriterion_BD wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 8:44 am
I understand they wouldn't kill a girl...great, but why expect a medal just for that?

In my case, I never asked for a medal or a pat on the back. I was saying that apologists, referencing Pariah, but also drawing an analogy to parts of the arab world, make excuses and prohibit those from within trying their best to enact change. In ZCF terms, Pariah justifying what he does has probably hurt the efforts of someone like Gargamel on the ground. Continuing the Islamic theme, constant criticism of calling someone like Sheikh Tawhidi 'the fake Sheikh' and sending him death threats, just for opposing Sharia and violence, is not helping and doing damage.

How do people know its fake concern for women? Why prevent women from accessing reproductive healthcare? Oral contraceptives have many medical indications from polycystic ovarian syndrome to dysmenorrhea (google it) and many other conditions. Its not just about murdering fetuses.

I'm with you there! That's a fairly conservative stance common with the main religions, right wing republicans, etc. Its the lefties that show their hypocrisy here. I think the 'Right' side of the fence probably feels this is a very low battle and they should focus their energies elsewhere. Just my POV. Although I have seen Milo talk about this alot recently.

Just this week I watched Sean Hannity talk about countries where gays were being thrown off buildings. Thats a fine point if you believe gays have the right to marry and if transgender people can use whichever bathroom they choose, and if you think the military shouldn't spend 1 million dollars on gender reassignment surgery but its OK to spend on 40 million for viagra for straight men.

Why?

I personally dont want gays to be able to marry, and that Tranny nonsense is ridiculous. I dont however want to see them tortured and killed. Just be called out for what they are, sick individuals with Gender dysmporphia, that need mental help (Post op trannies actually have a higher suicide rate, the operation and playing into their fantasy doesnt help!). Like I said, dont want them killed, human life is sacred and people should be united in that.

Please do not demonize them for "not standing up" when muslims like the Peshmerga are on the front lines battling jihadists.

This is the thing that I think is lost on alot of people and alot of apologists, whether intentionally or unintentionally, tend to look over.

The Peshmerga are Kurds who are being brutalised in the region. Them fighting the ISIS filth, is more self preservation than the struggle against tyranny and evil. Dont get me wrong, good on them! I have much more respect forthem than the thousands of refugees who cowardly flee and not fight for their countries. You'll often find that the most vocal anti ISIS Muslims are Shi'ites, who the Sunni ISIS really consider heathens and human waste. I see much less vocal Sunnis against ISIS (I Know there are alot) and on the flipside, I very rarely see Shi'ites speak out against Hezbollah and such.

Make no mistake, I would LOVE to see Muslims stop killing themselves and others. The muslim world does this disproportianately to the rest. However the voices and actions must come from within, leftie apologists have to stop cuddling up to those who dont.

And, this thread is wayyyy of track!

Thats why I dont watch snuff videos. Same reason i dont watch gay porn.

You say you want us on board completely, but its not the same ship. You will hop right on because you are white, but I would need to be extreme vetted, and once allowed on the boat would have sail under a Confederate flag while being insulted for my faith.

Capt Humayun Khan gave his life for the US army only to have the Right insult his sacrifice simply because he was a Muslim.

If the Right has good intentions, they are very good at hiding them.

I don't know who Sheikh tawhidi is, but there are plenty of people like him. My basic stance is, is the guy genuine? In other words someone who genuinle wants change in the Muslim world isn't also going to slam all 1.5 billion of them in blanket terms. Based on that litmus test, Majed Nawaz is a genuine reformer I feel, whereas Ayan Hirsi Ali is a nefarious opportunist. Although Ali doesnt claim to be Muslim.

It would appear liberals are hypocritical and Bill Maher agrees with you. Why does the Left paradoxically support Muslims?

But I dont believe they are for the following reasons. The left does not support radical Muslims. No one on the left likes ISIS. At the same time, the Right believes all muslims are ISIS and any differences that might exist are negligible. The left is also merely taking the opposite position of the Right vis a vis Islam. That is actually expected and has always been the case.

The other thing is that the majority of Muslims are non-white so prejudice against them is often equated with racism, which the left opposes as a matter of principle. There is also a high degree of correlation between islamophobia and racism, perhaps around 90% (just a ballpark estimate here).

This is the thing that I think is lost on alot of people and alot of apologists, whether intentionally or unintentionally, tend to look over.

The refugees are no more or less cowardly than any English speaking person's ancestors who fled Europe for the US or Australia and elsewhere. The Puritans landed in the US to escape religious persecution from the Brits. How much do damage do you think a 40 yo woman with 5 kids would do to ISIS anways?

The Peshmerga are Kurds, but who are the Kurds? Most of them are devout Muslims who idolize Saladin. I know because my best friends in college were Iraqi Kurds. They fully supported Bush's war in 2003 but also never missed a single one of their 5 daily prayers or a single day of fasting. Attempting to de-muslimify them is quite offensive I feel.

Thats like saying Tatenda Taibu is not a Christian, he's a black Zimbabwean.

The Muslim world does not necessairly kill people disproportionately to the rest. It gets reported disproportionately because Muslims tend to be located in all the geopolitical hotspots. If you did body counts, you'd probably find that Christians killed more people in 2017 than any other religion because there are 2 billion of them in the world. Just in Africa alone, Christians are involved in 80% of conflicts on the continent from South Sudan to Uganda.

It would be preposterous to say the Christian world is at fault or all Christians are to be blamed.

A bunch of Jewish settlers just threw rocks at Palestinian farm hands. Its not reported so we dont hear about unless you saw the article on the Jerusalem post.

Every month in India the BJP targets Christians and Muslims or fails to prosecute those who do. But its rarely reported even by the BBC.

In the past 2 months, 600,000 Rohingya have fled across to Bangladesh due to ethnic cleansing by Buddhists in Myanmar. It has been reported so sparingly you may never have even heard of the Rohingya.

There is currently a war raging between Christians and Muslims in the Central African Republic. Again not reported.

At the end the end of the day, progressives want to create a society that is accepting of all people evennif their values are different . The Right and ISIS only want people to adopt their value system.

I had interesting discussions on this in Conant's article a 4 years ago

http://www.theroar.com.au/2013/09/29/wh ... /#comments

Where is betterdays?

Wonderful article and very interesting Conant! But of course Peter Ndlovu is better than George Shaya lol! None of our cricket teams(Flower era included) have ever had the kind of overall talent Zimbabwe’s national football teams have had – particularly the two generations stretching from 1990-2006. After all, it’s not that hard to look good, or come close to achieving something as a nation in a sport that only comprises 10 nations at most. Like Cricket, a similar situation exists in Rugby. Football operates at a much higher level. Australia merely reaching the 2006 round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup ranks greater than any RWC, CWC or Ashes & Tri-Nations victory they’ve ever achieved!

You have an excellent memory hhm!

I hardly remember any of the stuff I was mumbling, but certainly it was heartening to find some positive feedback.

Indeed, where is betterdays?

Maehara if you have a way of contacting him on other forum aside ZCF, please ask him to come back? ;)

Increasingly there is nowhere to hide for these journos. Still it's spin after spin by them as they gradually reveal things. Would have saved themselves the trouble by jus having my posts printed because they do read them, and they know they are true.

What is most important is that the fact that us$19m still exists and that ZC were duped into p**sing off India(BCCI). ZIM got nothing out of dancing to the ICC tune.

Like it or not the egg won't be in my face.

We still need to know how much the Rising Stars tour cost. No one is saying anything.

Yeah but what idiot would rather appoint the same stumbling idiots who produced that 19m debt.

The indigenous Zimmers had no interest in this game except to loot the money from it. Do guys like Chikonga even know the rules to the game?

All of the Asian boards (barring Sri Lanka) are quite well financially...it makes sense to let them run cricket.
ZCF Hall of Famer
As I have always said putting people into one box because of the mistakes of others is unfair. it really hasn't been just indigenous Zimbos alone but people don't want to hear that truth. in fact I wonder who was behind the TV deal which is not generating any money. Remember that 10 year TV deal which was signed when Alistair Cambpell was pulling the strings with Manase? whatever happened to that?

It's like us blaming white people for Mark Vermeulen burning down the academy. how much was it worth? In the end every individual is responsible for their own actions and it must end there. I also know from first hand experience how some white people will be stealing from tour funds at schools but the issues are dealt with internally and swept under the carpet to avoid the embarrassment of a white person rotting in an African jail. corruption is a universal problem

Well said.

Its only an issue of color because pariah makes it one. Chigoka was in charge for 25 years, which means all looting was done under a black man's watch. Of course whites can loot too...they pillaged most of Africa and Asia for centuries but we are talking about the ZC here. Alistair Campbell...how much of the 19 million in debt is attributable to him?
ZCF Hall of Famer
Ali Campbell’s reputation is passively getting worse in this forum by hearsay, someone says something and it’s taken on as fact by the next person. I’ve observed this over the last few months.

Ali Campbell may not have been a good spender, I’m not sure. I really am not.

However, let’s remember one thing. Anything of note that happened between 2010 and 2015 was under Camepbells watch.

If nothing else, he was the only one that got s**t done.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Even if all the bad things speculated about AC are true, good stuff happened under his watch. Bvute, Chingoka, etc have nothing cricket-wise to show for their time in charge, and that is before we even get to their looting of ZC.

in the end nobody here is going to post concrete proof about anybody. doesn't mean it didn't happen. we all work on things we here from people behind the scenes and newspaper articles. some of which are true and some which are lies.

here is an article where Mukuhlani is explaining a few issues they had with AC. might not be all true but it can't all be lies.

http://www.chronicle.co.zw/mukuhlani-on ... signation/

whether you choose to believe it or not is a choice. we were all against the sacking of Manase at first but it turns out Mukuhlani is not as bad as people thought.

I will admit 2015 was a very productive year in terms of games. that is a fact and I can give credit to AC for that. we also did see a lot of sponsors come by. and btw I definitely don't believe what Prosper said about him
ZCF Hall of Famer
AC is a businessman, we all know that. What went on behind the scenes we'll never know I guess. But the classic comparison is...

1. ZC in the Campbell era conducted televised T20 tournaments with big name players, and found itself tremendously in debt.

2. ZC in the Chingoka/Bvute era couldn't even scrounge together some domestic FC games some years, and found itself tremendously in debt.

If you're going to be tremendously in debt regardless, may as well go with the guy who cares about cricket and can organise a couple of matches.

There were plenty of times in the Chingoka/Bvute era where Zimbabwe Cricket didn't even play cricket. It'd be like if Burger King stopped selling burgers... what's the point of your organisation?

I had far more free time to moderate with an iron rod back then - now, I have two kids, I'm two jobs on from where I was back then (neither of which involved less work than the one before), plus several other issues that limit my online time. It's not uncommon for days to pass between visits.
