Yeah, definitely. My point about the weaker opposition was merely introduce to stop any comparisons between, say, Matsikenyeri and Carlisle, given Matsikenyeri has averaged more in the last two years in ODIs than Carlisle did in his career. Carlisle was quite obviously superior, but it's good to see Matsikenyeri improving his game all the same.

As per usual with this forum, as soon as a member rubbishes a players he performs well. Perhaps we should bad-mouth the entire side and say they are going to lose evey match. They would probably all go on to play well and win most games.

I still stand by my assetion however that Debengwa shouldnt be in the side. It seems he is really only there for his batting. I am certain we must have better batsmen than Dabengwa.

I agree, one decent innings of 40+ doesn't make Dabengwa a quality batsman, as a few people have said over the past day or so, our 5th bowler is where things are going down hill. The silly thing is, Chigumbura is a true allrounder - he bats at 7. There is no reason why we can't play specialist bowlers at 8, 9, 10 and 11.

Despite the fact that he has done this^^ on wednesday...Dabengwa has been a consistent performer in the list A games. I watched him bail us out against Sri Lanka A in Harare and Bulawayo. He played well again in the 4 day games in S.A. Maybe he hasnt been able to perform his role well in the team. He comes in at number 7 or 8 as the last and recognisable batsmen where he is supposed to seach for quick runs in the same manner that SL use Dilshan. Its not easy to just go in there and blast the ball against quality bowlers, so the guy needs a bit of time to mature. Even Chigumbura need to settle down a bit before he can have a go at the bowlers, but by the time he walks in we will be going at a run rate of 3runs per over and it puts too much pressure on someone who is under pressure already.

I would certainly put him ahead of Matsikenyeri...who do you think can play his position better than him...i couldnt find any

We need a 5 man bowling attack. Even if he does give us the odd 40 as a specialist number 8, he is taking the spot of another bowler, and the 5th bowler is where Zimbabwe are losing these matches.
Yeah, as I said before, there's not a long wrong with Dabengwa being selected as a batsman. If we want a specialist #8 batsman, he's the man, for sure. The problem is, we'd be much better served with a bowler. If a batsman in the top 7 is injured, I have no qualms with Dabengwa slipping in there, but he's not much of a bowler at this level so his value isn't great in the role he's being selected in.

I agree to an extent. I think as far as batting strength he and Matsikenyeri are fighting for the same spot (ie. the bloke who replaces an injured or out of form player, or "specialist number 8"). Zimbabwe at full strength, IMO, does not include Keith Dabengwa or Stuart Matsikenyeri (but they are both young, that could well change over time).

As far as I know, Keith Dabengwa had a knee injury.

No idea about how long he will remain out of the game.
