To be fair, hhm isn’t likely to be a commie as he is on record on this forum as stating that he supported trump in the (then) upcoming USA election.

Of course, it is duly possible that that was before hhm realises that this forum, in that election, probably has more Trump supporters than Hillary. So he’s been quiet since the contrarian game wasn’t strong on that one.

Yeah, why does this forum have many Trump supporters? I wonder if Trump likes cricket?

Funnily enough a political pamphlet was doing the rounds in New Jersey which warned of the dangers of cricket.

cricket probably is a vital threat to American democracy.

Now there’s a typical comment, donor countries having the audacity to hand over money with strings attached, the unreasonable b*****ds! 😂 It’s ok for China to hand over cash in exchange for mining rights and a variety of other dubious and damaging things but if the west does it on the condition that there’s transparency, fair elections and freedom of the press, then they’re unreasonable, interfering and imperialist.

Aaah the land issue- where do I start?

He said the redistribution was irrevocable but failure or inability to utilize it fully would mean a rethink. Of course that’s not completely true because then most of the land would be reconfiscated because commercial farming is not s strong suit. However if he’s true to his word, a few younger farmers are going to get some land. The reality is that agriculture is heading down the corporate road. I know a few corporates with vast areas, and this looks to be increased extensively. In my humble opinion it will help alleviate the annual food crisis but it’s not ideal.

Once again, through smart and repeated sloaganeering it has been made into one of re main issues, but it isn’t at all. When 90% of the farms are black owned, lie fallow and have been asset stripped that’s all the proof you need.

Aaah the Israelis and the elections. They ensured a win last time and are set to do the same next round. Of course there’s their involvement in the diamonds as well. I celebrate every Palestinian victory with quiet fervor. It took me a while to figure out why they’re deservedly disliked the world over.

Back to the land issue-

Everyone wants a plot of land, so do I.

Do I have the skills to farm it on a commercial scale? No.

I’m well educated and come from a farming background in my extreme youth, but I don’t have the skills. How is some poor guy who has no commercial farming training, financial background, mechanical background etc going to put in more than an acre of maize? I’m not cussing the ideal but it’s been poorly thought out and executed and they will do well to get something in motion that is viable without some redistribution in the other direction. Anyway let’s see how it rolls out. We can only hope for changes in every single aspect of governance and our lives. Just getting the cops briefly off the road has been a big win for me. 😂

That’s what happens when you’re in the doldrums, the smallest improvement is a sweet victory.

Revoking the land reform would have been extremely difficult. believe it or not it's an extremely popular concept amongst black africans.. it's execution was poor but I don't think I have met a black person who is against the theory. in my opinion it should have been a 20 year plan with the first 10 years being used to educate a generation of young black students how to farm. Although I must mention that Land bought legitimately from Gvt even from Rhodesian times should not have been acquired as long as it was bought at a fair price.

Compensation was actually already legally agreed upon but we all knew Bob wouldn't do anything about it. also from the Western perspective they have major interests in this because if it works then other countries will follow suit.

I got a feeling Mnangagwa is going to create a system where white Zimbos can apply for land just like anybody else which I think is the right thing to do. any Zimbo should be given the same right.

Disclaimer : I'm not trying to bash or insult anyone here

just constructive thoughts about the actual realities on the ground. would be interesting to know what my fellow white forum members actually think about land reform(the theory because we all know the way it was done was wrong)..

it is also interesting to note that S.A. are trying to do it the peaceful way but is it working? willing buyer willing seller will never work in my opinion.it really leaves everybody in a bit of a fix

The sh*t is about to hit the fan here.

Zimbos (Mozambicans, Nigerians etc) would do well to go back to their stable countries and rebuild.

Nothing as painful as things here heading south and only then you decide to run back home to find all opportunities taken up.

NB: What is a Zimbo?

Anybody with a Zimbabwean ID or birth certificate is what I believe Taps meant.

I’m obviously no fan of the land reform program. It was done out of emotion with no logic, and it punished the white people who hung around this long to contribute and be a part of modern society. Their loyalty has made them look like fools. Since you asked a white POV I’ll give it when I have more time, although perhaps someone like googly will beat me to the punch there.

However, what I will say now, IF, I was all for it, then I would much prefer doing something along your suggestion. To me it’s much more common sense to implement a succession training plan or capability assessment. That’s just pure common sense IF you wanted to go down this path.

Shows you are a lot smarter than ZANU who let land go to waste so people like our friend watermelon can have weekend poker dens at the expense of the economy and people not having enough food to eat on a basic level.

I think everyone can agree that it’s an absurd situation that a rich food factory is relying on foreign(western) donations on eating because their politicians made an emotive decision because they don’t like the west.

A smart leader would be making money by selling their s**t back to the colonialists and profiting of them.

That’s what the Jews would do.

I know this isn't a cricket topic, but politics and cricket in Zimbabwe are most certainly intertwined.

Soldiers have taken over the state broadcaster and explosions have been heard in Harare: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-41992351

While Mugabe deserves everything he gets in trying to turn Zimbabwe into his own family fiefdom, I am not sure a military coup will lead to better governance.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Hope that everyone is safe!

Tha being said, as long as whoever comes to power can ensure justice and prosperity, does it really matter? Lets hope for the very best.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Yeah, no one in the military is going to ensure justice and prosperity. These guys are as bad as the ones they are trying to overthrow.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Stickying this one. As you said it's all intertwined.
ZCF Hall of Famer
The military are claiming it is not a coup and that they are just removing criminals who are around Mugabe. Of course the military always deny coups when they launch them.
ZCF Hall of Famer
We need to get an account from gargamel or Googly or someone else on the ground. The media reports are pretty light on for detail.

I guess it doesn't help that it's the middle of the night in Zim either.
ZCF Hall of Famer
I was chatting with googly earlier who confirmed that armoured vehicles were in Harare yesterday, specificallyat the Presidential Guard HQ, I guess there to neutralise any threat they pose.
ZCF Hall of Famer
Personally heard gunshots in the middle of the night.. sounded like AK-47 kind of fire. with a couple of explosions. true story. I don't live too far from where the President lives. they have taken over the state broadcasters. will see if they are present on the streets. somebody I know who has a very early start to his day said there are some military roadblocks present.

Will see what happens over time. nothing is 100% clear yet
ZCF Hall of Famer
No coincidence that this comes amongst the Cremer match fixing scandal.

The public are up in arms.
