Why wasn't Cremer in the ODI squad?

I don't really understand this non-selection and it hasn't been discussed at length here yet.

His domestic one-day bowling form has been very good (9 wickets at 13.44, economy 3.50 - the best figures among all spinners and from only 4 matches)

He was our best ODI bowler last time we toured the West Indies (7 wickets at 26.6, economy 4.65)

He can offer something with the bat

He's a quality leg spinner and a proven quantity. It's disgraceful that he wasn't selected in the one-day squad.

Because Utseya, Mutombodzi & Mushangwe have been selected instead, and they can't select everyone.

- Why is Malcolm Waller in The ODI squad?

- Why is Jarvis?

- Why isn't Shingi in the ODI squad? He's also done ok in WI. ;)

- Why isn't Elton?

- Why isn't Kasuza?

- Why isn't Rainsford?

Utseya's selection is fair enough. He's a proven performer at international level. However Mutombodzi and Mushangwe have not done enough to displace Cremer. They are speculative selections at best.

Certainly ahead of Mutombodzi. Utseya fine. Mushangwe reasonable.

😂 Nice one man I discuss SA cricket issues with SA guys this side and I am not passionate enough to join a forum if there is one. I also get tired of the SA issues up in here. I don't mind a few parrallels being put up here and there but not whole essays.

The only serious reason that I an think is that he is just coming off a serious injury. The ODIs are before the tests, and it gives him tie for one or two more Logan Cup games to ensure his fitness before the test matches. Seeing which, if either, of Mutombodzi or Mushangwe can be looked at as long term replacements for Price isn't a bad idea. But as you say, 2 21 year old legspinners with 1 ODI between them is a bit of punt. Hopefully they do will, if/when they get an opportunity.

If fitness allows, Cremer should be in the team for all three formats. His career has been so stop start. He needs an extended run in the side. Attacking spinners like Cremer can occasionally go for a few runs, but it is important that they have the backing of the selectors and given a decent run.
