Opening post

From ZC's own match report on the Eagles v Rocks game:


They may not be a strong team, but they usually hold their own in one-day cricket; in the four-day game they bat in particular as if they were on death row. This defeatist attitude has brought them disgrace yet again, so much so that right now they are a liability to the Logan Cup competition. Unless the players themselves get their heads right they are doomed to more dismal performances in what remains of the season.

So Panyangara is more experienced in 'long spells' because a - he is older and b - he has played 20 odd ODIs?

Really?

Panyangara has done what he has done, but your argument from experience, delivered with such vehemence, just doesn't hold water. My real problem for you is that the consistent attachment you have to both Rainsford and Panyangara actually undermines your position on Rainsford. Ed actually has the overs, the spells, the wickets, the consistent performances, the years and seasons. Panyangara doesn't.

Arguing for both of them on the basis of experience tends to tarnish Rainsford.

Now Tinashe might do better than Chatara say, but it won't be because he is vastly more experienced. It will be on the basis of form or talent.

If youse hate HHMs opinion so much stop baiting

him and talking about it so much

Alot of people here seem desperate to win HHMs approval or to convert him to their opinion.

He has his favorite players. So do I, so do you guys....that's all it is.

We don't always need debates about Panyangara, rainsford or duffin every thread.

:D - this is he 3rd/4th time you've said something along these lines; are you feeling threatened or sumink doggy ... or just trying a different tac to end the debate?

I can tell you the issue here is that hhm makes sense ... occasionally 8-) ... and he does so in the face of the current 'hysteria' (for want of a better word). Of course, when this is the case, one wants to argue, not so much to win your opponent's approval or convert them but to gain moral support (of the might is right order) to paper over the cracks that have been pointed out and when this fails; Spanish Inquisition/founding of America, depending on which side wins, results.

With torture somewhat frowned upon and no more islands to settle - we have forums!!

I just think it's an argument that wil never be won.

Because:

Alot of forumers are stubborn.

And

Some players like panayangara will never get another chance to play for zim again so we will never know the answers...even if he did, some variables will spurn the debate. Wickets v Eco rate, consistency v inconsistency etc.

Ok, can't argue with anything there...

as my aged colleague repeats ... almost daily ...

we live in an infinite world (which is actually debatable in itself, but..) so there are an infinite number of possibilities...

along with his other staple ... "reason is the slave of passion"

these things eventually rub off

Some arguments can be won - the Vusi argument has been settled, the Tino one is close, the Jarvis one is going that way. And the majority of team lists (your other major gripe :D ) are now similar. So this is the last remnant of a passionate rebuilding of the national team, let the guys duke it out for a while, by the end of the NZ tour there won't be anything to debate!

I think it's more likely by the end of the NZ tour ... all settlements will be renegotiated :)
