Taking nothing away from Jarvis though, he almost did exactly what he was brought into the team to do. I say almost because he didn't take wickets up front - but at the end of an innings, he's the sort of guy who has the ability to take a couple of quick wickets and he did that.

I tend to prefer horses fot courses and HSC is more seam attack so yes it was a good call...the seamers just werent disciplined...complacency?

Shareprice should never be dropped him and utseya work beautifully together , only problem is vitori , mpofu and jarvis i want all in the side yet i also want utseya and price one of them has to miss out nxt game. seeing as we have won the series price can sit out the rest and see what jarvis , vitori and mpofu can do and it will be a bowl off out of the 3 to see which one makes way nxt series for price or maybe even they bowl so well they keep jarvis out of the side . who knows its a good thing zim is facing this problem i got bored of the spinners back in the world cup days and i think taylors captaincy has creatted a new era in zim cricket a very exciting one , one with belief and something i havent seen in about 7 years its truely great to watch and a credit to taylor , butcher , streak flower gillespie the players and coaches all round the nation and most of all the playing squad, there is good times ahead and we have the belief and proof we can play good cricket. special mention to hammy and taibu today and also chigumbura backen me up he took wickets last game and this game made runs when we needed them the most but overall i think utseya was the real hero today the guys 2 ft tall but hes such great value and wears his heart on his sleep when he gave up the captaincy i thought he was gone for all goods and he proved evryone wrong and myself , now the guy bats bowls and is always churpy in the field. keeep going zim :)

However, the same can be said about the first ODI, that we needed another seamer when they were at 43-5, to complement Chigs who isn't anything I'd call a strike bowler. Two sides of the same coin really.
What this means is that this is a call that we should become familiar with: extra seamer or extra spinner? Some days it'll Price, other days Utseya, or Jarvis or Vitori. It just makes Taylor and the coaches' job of team selection on the day more dynamic and exciting, but risky. But I won't go as far as labelling particular decisions (only in this restricted regard) bad calls.

ShareI thnk it was a good call, esp in th death overs were Jarvis was impressive. Who knows if he had not gotten those 2 wickets? Bangla would have had a chance even after Mushfiqur. I guess we will never knw, but i think our all round perfomace was good, and we must keep improving. Kinda like the test declaration, if it works out its all good, if it doesnt, at least we had a shot

I agree entirely and I agree with the rationale behind the extra seamer - and yes, it is hard to label it a bad call when it probably helped lead to the win. :oops:
The main issue though is that Price is a star player... do you drop your star players for anyone? Should you?
This isn't a "drop Krejza to play Bollinger" type scenario, this is a "drop Warne to play Bollinger" type scenario...
I guess with there being 5 ODIs, perhaps the selectors felt they had the opportunity to try this combination.

I think it was a tough call, but they are necessary when all your bowlers are performing well. Don't forget The Meth is still sitting on the sidelines. I hate seeing Price left out but I think it may happen more at HSC. If one of Mpofu, Vitori, or Jarvis goes off the boil it is nice to know we have Price waiting in the wings to bring back some stability.

the idea makes me uncomfortable, but we gots da depth at the moment.

hararian pitch seems seam friendly and we have in form seamers, it makes sense to squeeze a few pacemen in there and not have 2 spinners. also, bangers tend to play spin good.
Also, ray price is a cack handed offie whereas prosper is a right handed offie, this means this series the roles are kind of reversed.
In the past and against other teams ray price (and similarly daniel vettori, sully benn,beer etc) acts as a watered down accurate leggie in essence as they spin the ball away from the right handers. bangers are loaded with left hand batsmen therefore prosper is being the ray price of the team at the moment, as he is spinning the ball away from the lefties. Another thing prices strength wickettaking wise is coming from around the wicket and straightening on the stumps and digging for lbws. if price could bowl chinaman he'd be in the team.
price is generally a run restrictor though and rarely takes non LBW wickets.

A tough call, a bold move, a bit of a gamble that payed off in the end. I think we should stop talking about someone being 'dropped' when they sit out a match. For once we have a squad of cricketers who perform so we can rotate players according to conditions, fitness and the opposition. It has been mentioned that Bangladesh have a lot of lefthanders up the order which plays into Prosper's hands (in fact I think Taylor missed a trick by taking him off early and bringing him back when there were only right handers at the crease), and one can argue that Prosper was unlucky to miss out in the test, given that he's also a better batsman than Price.
We will definitely play two spinners at QSC, but when Cremer comes back eventually it will get interesting because I doubt we'll ever see the three-pronged spin attack back in action (as much as I loved them on their day).
