HARARE - Glenshire seamer Trevor Garwe has declared war on his former club Takashinga 2 when the two teams meet in the Vigne Cup top of the table clash at Sunrise Sports Club today.
Highfield-based Takashinga 2 have a one point cushion over second placed Glenshire who still have a game in hand.
Garwe crossed paths to join his home team last season and is set to rekindle the rivalry with his old teammates on the field today.
The previous games have seen the 25-year-old in-swing bowler gifted with pace playing a leading role with the bat managing two half centuries in four games.
He is hopeful that today’s match will see him bowling for the first time since picking up a thigh muscle injury last season.
“This is going to be my toughest game of the season because I have to prove a point that Glenshire has always been a force to reckon with in Zimbabwe cricket by winning against my former club,” Garwe told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday.
“I know almost every player who plays for Takashinga but the friendship starts and stops outside the field of play and when we get it to the match we won’t be treating each other with kid gloves.”
National team fast bowler Shingi Masakadza who will be captaining Takashinga 2 said that his team will be out to collect maximum points while equally declared fireworks to their opponents.
“The season still has a long way to go before it’s completed but we are looking to seal the championship before it becomes very difficult for us by claiming points from our biggest rival tomorrow (today),” Masakadza said.
“It’s good that we played with Trevor for quite some time at our club to the extent that we now know his weakness so he won’t be much of a threat to us but all the same we look forward to an exciting match.”
In other matches Takashinga 1 will play against Old Marlvenians at Takashinga Sports Club.
Alexandra Sports Club hosts Royal at Alex while Old Hararians and Uprising square off at OH Sports Club.
