HARARE - The Harare Metropolitan provincial cricket board meeting, originally scheduled for this week, has been cancelled due to confusion and poor communication.

The meeting had been convened to debate the Vigne Cup league that resumed last weekend with second round matches, having taken a festive season break in November.

Vigne Cup administrators’ representative Dakarai Kuhlengisa, from the Mashonaland Eagles franchise, said the meeting would not go ahead as planned.

“We are no longer going ahead with the meeting as per our previous plan,” Kuhlengisa told the Daily News yesterday.

“This has been necessitated by a few apologies from members within the board so we will sit down with the authorities from the board and come up with a new date.”

Harare Metro provincial chairman Cyprian Mandenge expressed ignorance on the said meeting, saying he was only learning of the meeting from this writer.

“I’m not aware of any meeting, I’m just hearing about it from you,” Mandenge said.

“All I know is that last time I called for a meeting and had to postpone it after noticing that there was no quorum... “Recently I was informed by telephone of a meeting that I couldn’t attend because I was travelling out of town.”

Meanwhile, league action resumed last weekend with all the four lined-up matches being fulfilled. Interestingly, most Zimbabwe Cricket contracted umpires took the field, blending well with the inexperienced officials.

Harare Metro League chairman Terry Mubwandarikwa welcomed the development.

“That’s a positive sign for the local game if we can have these experienced umpires...” Mubwandarikwa told the Daily News.
