Opening post

Well I'm mainly a bowler, but can bat. Bat more in ODI Cricket because i can hit it pretty hard (stand and deliver i think the term is). I opened last season in the ODI format, scored 70 three times in double quick time and couldn't score a sausage. Took a lot of wickets though with the new ball, especially on the quick decks. Bowled 82Mph last season.

That's really a great offer man, I'll keep that in the diary! Would love to play any kind of cricket in first class in Zimbabwe. Even if for the Rocks.

Why Don't you?

Next season

You'll get paid even if it's modest and have a first class career, tv on stanbix etc

Streaks coaching might hit the right note and u might get a test cap if Jarvis breaks down

Like Sloandog, I don't want to pick a fight on this one, but I think he can up he's got time to up his pace and be a better bowler(&bat) than Hastings/Christian(similar action?). Anyway, my emphasis is on identifying players with the potential to be turned into international class allrounders, and Nathan is one of them. We underestimate just how valuable they are! NZ has managed to be an overacheiving side, largely because of allrounders! We're suffering right now because we don't have any! I feel it should be a ZC policy, they had that 'fast bowler' search campaign, I think we should focus on one for seamer-allrounders over the next two years! Give them the best attention!

Streaky clearly not doing enough right now then.........? :)

I see no one's thrown their weight behind Rainsford much, or should I say, you guys are staying clear of him! Perhaps it's the fear of him sidelining one of the favorites! Well, in ODIs, Rainsford is better than Jarvis at exactly the similar stage of his career(the same is double true of Panyangara).

What concerns me is that they were both also better u19 players, and marginally younger than Jarvis when they made their international debuts(Panyangara even worse) too, yet somehow the crystal balls of many here continues to say Jarvis WILL be a better player in the long run, or is the one to beat. The gulf those two have over him is further underlined by the tougher opposition they faced, and foreign conditions in which they excelled when even younger! In the meantime Jarvis' Test&ODI stats continue to gradually get worse, while their First Class & List A stats remain superior!

My humble question to you guys is, by what logic do you arrive at the conclusion that Jarvis, is and will be a better bowler, because apart from stats themselves which totally disprove it, I also continue to search for the evidence based simply on what I've seen of all the 3 boys in live action, and what I continue to observe of Jarvis, but NOTHING suggests my conclusion is false.

Someone mentioned Jarvis uprooting Guptil's stump, but Rainsford & Panyangara's careers up to the same point are littered with plenty of great past&present batsmen whom they've dislodged, at home & away! I dare say, Rainsford is the best internatinal bowler we've had since Streak retired! Mpofu's got nothing on him(& Panyangara as well)!

:D
Legend
Some of the potential that Rainsford and Panyangara had as under 19s was damaged by the serious stress fractures that they both had at crucial stages of their development. Jarvis had something similar, but the injury seems to have been handled better, and he has returned looking as fit as before.

I watched Panyangara trundle in in the Notts league, struggling to get out average club players (like me!) on sporty wickets. Not very inspiring. Undoubtedly he should have improved since returning to prefoessional, first-class cricket, but when I played against him he didn't look like a first-class bowler, let alone and international one...

I agree with you Hhm. Panyangara has nothing on Rainsford.

Panyangara is ordinary, that is something we can all agree on I think. Rainsford is solid yet not explosive.

And that is the whole song and dance summed up.

are we forgetting Anthony Ireland, i think ZC should humble themselves and chase these older mature players, including Ewing, Duffin, S Ervine, Rainsford even J Cameron, Nicholson. The youngsters should earn their stripes in due course, we need to be competing now and enjoying watching Zim

Oh boy, not someone talking about bringing back Sean Ervine and Anthony Ireland again. I think they are gone, and seeing the results of this tour I can't imagine they would be in a hurry to return!

What you need to foucs on is the fact that gradually, a few people here are starting to lose more and more faith in the stupid policies and approach the coaches adopted! What were they thinking blooding in novices! A little while ago BRM himself felt they would come good within a year, now that's increased to 3 years! After hosting Aus&SA, we'll be away to SL&Pak, at that time! Cremer, Jarvis & Vitori will take care of them, so be patient guys! 😂
hhm, we have all seen Rainsford in the Stanbic T20 this year. He is no match winner and looked much inferior to Shingi and even Vitori.

I clearly remember Hami charging down the track and hitting him for a massive six.

Even Muzhange is a better and clearly much deserved pick.

I dont think the problem is with the bowling. It is the batting department and why on earth Chakabva and Taibu would eat so many balls chasing 373.

Ireland had a very poor last year.

You must've missed the white flags in their hands! :)

You can't judge them for how they went about things. What's stupid is for the catalyst of the team to position himself at #4 in the odi batting line, knowing fully well that there's a 90% chance for us to be 3 down for little on the board, then he WILL find himself under far too much pressure to effect the result positively, but still persists with that policy which actually puts even more pressure on those coming after. Thankfully, this time those after him did their job! ;)
