ZCF Hall of Famer

Opening post

something popped into my head the other day while i was eating some chocolate and thinking about zimbabwe.

Kevin Curran....although nothing recent why is it whenever he is spoken about its almost always in a negative light?

yes he was a very conservative coach in the troubled years, but i dont think thats it. I always get the impression he is a hated man from anyone outside ZC themselves.

However unlike the other officials, i cant think of a proper reason why.

So if you hate or mildly dislike Kev, can you please state why here?

alternatively if you think hes tip top, also tell us why.

my own personal view when reading between the lines on other articles (like the gumby-manatsa article currently being talked about atm on the main page) that mention Curran briefly off the cuff i get the impression hes a passionate man who does his best to proactively promote zimbo cricket and looks after players.

Curran is a decent guy and has stuck with Zimbabwean cricket through thick and thin. He coached out of the hhm handbook and never looked to win any matches, if we did win any under him it was not by design and was just a fortunate accident. He only ever seemed interested in not losing by too much, normally aim for 100 runs less than the opposition in ODIs.

That was his only major fault. Other than that, he was my hero in playing days, a decent allrounder. My earliest faint memory of ZC is KC bowling and batting in 1983 WC. Infact I only remember KC in action from those days. It must have been a terrific unit, we Arnott, Fletcher, Curran, Rawson the ripper, Traicos and teenager Houghton and Hick in the mix.

Yeah my beef with curran was with the conservative approach he had. But if I am not mistaken he is the dude who got Tino to shed 16kgs through one of his excercise regimes, not sure. But I saw him Mutare when the Eagles played the Mountaineers and he does seem passionate and he seemed to get alomng with the players pretty well.

I think he has the capacity to rub people the wrong way.

When he was telling our players to just nurse it through ..... to get a decent deafeat ... A deafeat is a defeat wheather by 2 runs or 500 runs .
