Chibhabha returns to Eagles, Garwe joins Rocks

HARARE - Out-of-favour Zimbabwe all-rounder Chamu Chibhabha has signed for Mashonaland Eagles from Masvingo’s Southern Rocks ahead of the upcoming 2012-13 domestic season.

The 26-year-old batsman and medium-pace bowler returns to the Harare-based franchise which he left two seasons ago. The deal sees Eagles pace bowler Trevor Garwe move in the opposition direction to Rocks.

Chibhabha captained Rocks in the 2009-10 season and was the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe’s domestic Twenty20 competition with 230 runs at an average of 57.50.

He lost his place in the national side after his form took a nose dive. His most recent international appearance was in Zimbabwe “A” colours during a tri-series with South Africa and Sri Lanka in July.

“We are happy to have him (Chibhabha) in the side, he comes in as a great addition to our batting lineup as well as the seam bowling department,” Eagles chief executive Vimbai Mapukute told the Daily News yesterday.

“He’s also a senior player with vast experience acquired through playing for the national team, it will be very good to see him contribute towards the team’s success.”

Meanwhile, the Coca-Cola Pro50 holders will not sign any overseas professional this season due to financial constraints, Mapukute said.

Pace bowlers Tatenda Manatsa-Gumunyu and Nathan Waller have been rewarded with new contracts following their outstanding performances last season.
