How are we suppose to thrash a team like Pakistan when we have the smallest playing group of all test nations, a massive player drain, our players are never paid and always on strike.We have no stability at at management and player level plus we also have the worst facilities of any test nation .....


the smallest playing group of all test nations You seem to be looking for excuses to fail(glass half empty) The smallest playing group is a feeble excuse- if numbers were a factor then India would be winning everything and top of the league-they are not. The All Blacks would be a mediocre rugby team- they are not.

I did watch the 2 test series where we were thumped in the 1st test, and then only just managed to win the 2nd test.


Until our boys are given equal opportunity to perform in as other nations it's unfair to be too critical

Facilities?! What do you mean- do we not have bats and balls and fielders- what more do you want?5*hotels, naked masseurs, someone to wipe your bum, give you travel money, expenses,food,towels,clothes washed for you. Actually apart from the first 3 on that list players get everything else done for them. They only fork out $1 a day to get to and from work. IF our players got an "equal opportunity" like other nations, they would still lose-why?? Because 90% of them have no mental aptitude or strength or desire to succeed individually or as a team-they are freeloaders, getting paid whether they perform at franchise level or not.

Granted, the fact they have not been paid on time etc is a major psychological factor in underperforming(although the players must fix this themselves by changing the management), and yes our best players have left the building but that still does not detract me from my points about our current players.

Perhaps my perception of Mental Strength is different to yours- my perception is akin to the Ozzies 16match winning streak or the WI/ENglish 25/26 matches without loss, not a meagre scrabble in the dirt win over lowly Pakistan.

These are my facts i've seen in my involvement over the last 10yrs. The management is crap and greedy we ALL now know this.(we all know it is the players who can change this-if they ALL can be bothered or a vast majority can be bothered.But most are apathetic)

I'm sorry if this comes across as hurtful to some of you players but that's what the truth does- steps up and b***h slaps you in the face! Take for an example------physical fitness.

Physical fitness is a FUNDAMENTAL, it is a pre-cursor to match fitness and mental preparedness. Physical fitness doesn't take huge sums of money nor world class facilities in order to achieve.

In fact it costs nothing to make yourself physically fit for cricket- yet, yet the majority of franchise players are not fit, they don't train in their off season, they hardly do fitness in the on season. Our national players have been found wanting with their fitness. In fact there was no fitness testing this season and previous season show a flawed fitness test where players were going through the motions and doing 110 situps in 1min!?75 pressups in 1min, these weren't proper situps or pressups. There was no quality control.

If you are super fit then you are mentally prepared and ready for what's coming next. If you aren't fit then you are doubled over trying to force air into you lungs and worried you might have to run 3 again shortly where you may have to start walking half way because you are tired-- you'll also play tired sloppy shots and go out quickly.

Mate I have a bat a ball and stumps and access to nets does that mean I have enough facilities to play test cricket ???

The other nations have state of the art facilities and technology to help them improve, now I know it would be hard for Zimbabwe to gain these things but if they had at least some stability and we're getting paid and playing regularly then I believe we would see massive improvements .....

Yes having a small player base and loosing heaps of players every year is a big factor I don't understand how you can't see this, I'm not going to rattle off names of all the guys who have left because we all know them and we all know if they were still around the franchise comp would be stronger which would in turn improve the skills of our players .....

they have a fitness coach this is not club cricket were u just turn up and play or backyard mickey mouse cricket .how do you know the franchise cricketers dont train in the off season u are asuming . if they ddnt train county players wouldnt have come i.e rory hamilton- brown they come to zim to improve their fitness and have match practice .

I know they don't train in the off season)90%) of them because they are fatter and slower and tire more easily. I am talking about zim franchise players here- not other country players.

So it's not about me assuming they don't train- they don't. :D You don't need a fitness coach to get fit- unless you are an unmotivated 16yr old.

Yes! Now go into those nets and bat for the next two days- make sure you run double every 3rd ball. That'll be the start of your mental preparedness- better still have a 2day centre session with fielders.

We don't need state of the art/world class facilities or technology- this is another psychological attribution by players for an excuse to be failures.

Yes getting paid on bloody time would be beneficial to us and is very demoralising considering we are Zimbabwe Cricket- not some suit.

The other problem of course is IF things work out and we get paid on time and regularly then all the exodus players will flock back and the current 3rd rate players would be ousted/jobless no food on the table.

Hmmm this little debate has just made me realise Zim Cricket still hasn't hit rock bottom. The spiral continues....

I have to say though that numbers may not be the be all and end all but they do play a strong factor.

Zim punch above their weight but they are really just pooled from a collection of private school kids and the odd enthusiast from the public school that slipped through the cracks.

The rugby analogy isn't a very good one. At first glance maybe but not when you look at a few facts.

And India and sport have bever gone together. For a country of a billion they are deadset HOpELESS at sport.i mean no offence but it's true- how many gold medals at last Olympics ? 3/4?

I think it has something to so with the vegetarian culture of the country. I highly respect vegetarians and hate animal cruelty but it don't help sporting prowess
odd public school enthusiasts that slipped through the cracks interesting !!!!!!!!
