Opening post

I could not stop myself from posting this. Via Dean du Plessis, audio of yesterday's press conference: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=702253373238982

Dean asked Dougie if he was also a selector. Dougie was perplexed, thought for a while, and then said yes! :)

Then Dean asked him about the sense in the selection of Prosper, and a very weak response by Dougie.

Later, as a response to someone else's question. Dougie: "We've got bowlers for all conditions. We've got seamers, swingers, spinners and Prosper" 😂 😂 😂

Zimbabwe got what they deserved in the 20/20 against new Zealand by selecting prosper, in the last ODI we had a good combination with Nyumbu/cremer both among the wickets.

Go away Prosper and work on your action rather than writing poison pen letters

Really stunning to see this level of being aloof on the part of the national team bowling coach. He doesn't even know for sure if he is a selector. And says yes, in the end!

In all this Prosper madness, the one guy for whom I really feel for is Nyumbu. He deserves all his chances but is being blocked with no legal / logical reasons to give.

Doug does sound dopey, however he may have ummed and arrhd because he isnt a selector, however his opinion holds weight at the selection table.

Cremer came in and overtook Nyumbu, and a truckload of otehr deserving spinners. before you even point a finger at Utseya start there. How did Cremer overtake all these spinners? That's the first madness!

I like Dean, he's never afraid to ask the more important questions.

I'm no fan of Cremer, and I'm no hater as well. Pretty neutral when it comes to his abilities. He has his pluses and minuses and I have been critical of him before.

The point here is, the bowling coach does not know if he is a selector, and he does not know what type of a bowler Utseya is (he certainly ins't a "swinger" by the looks of it too, whatever Hondo meant there). If you want to keep a person in the team for his "vast experience", bring back Ray Price too.

With all this, Prosper, and the selectors by continuing to select him, are blocking a genuine spinner / pacer / all-rounder from getting into the side. Nyumbu is clearly the most affected.

I've agreed several times tha Utseya should not be picked. It was right to give him a chance like all other players who had testing, but it was wrong to keep him there.

Nyumbu is like a poor man's Piedt pace&bounce behind his balls, but I feel there are better options surely. I'd like to think Mushangwe & Wellington are better. But the biggest loss is Simon Mugava. Some might say he was Prosper's direct replacement since he's an offie, while Mushangwe&Mutombodzi were Cremer's direct replacements. Nyumbu had many years in FC cricekt and he was underwhelming throughout except for that one breakout season that got him.

He impressed in that one test but I feel he's like Simn Harmer for the Proteas - both with a lot of FC experience mature, but overrated.

Still waiting...

You sound mildly against it not totally against it. But I'm pleasantly surprised to read you dissecting him Crimson properly.

a. Because you don't read what others post. Of course you'll be surprised when pointed out.

b. I was a leggie myself so I watch them with a lot of interest.

c. Not knowing his progress in his hiatus, I can't just form a hard and fast opinion. But I was against the move to bring him back as is, but he has done decently on comeback. So, this statement of yours was wrong:

Cremer came in and overtook Nyumbu, and a truckload of otehr deserving spinners. before you even point a finger at Utseya start there. How did Cremer overtake all these spinners? That's the first madness!

This thread is my only attempt to try and get you accept your mistake and possibly tender an apology for generalizing incorrectly. And I'm sure someone can unearth a similar thread for Ervine and Waller as well, as well as Solz Mire. So, if there is any credibility at all, here are the next 3 steps expected:

1. Accept that this generalization was wrong all along:

I get all of that but I'm still waiting for someone to say a comment like "Cremer shouldn't have been recalled. They should have played Wellington"...and Mushangwe, and Mutombodzi, and whoever. But all i'm hearing is Nyumbu ahead of Utseya. No one wants to say the obvious but that's ok. 😂

2. Back up the claim of youngsters getting a chance under Mangongo and explain the Wellington scenario.

CrimsonAvenger wrote:The only time Wasakadza was selected to the national team, he didn't get a game in the spinner friendly Bangladesh and we were going down like ten pins. It wouldn't have gotten worse if we had played him. But hey, the Zim coaches don't always back the youngsters and keep churning out the same lot. If it was Mangongo in charge... wait a minute...

3. If you have problems with the opinions of whoever your "usual suspects" are, engage them with PM, if they want to respond at all. Don't treat us with the same generalized s**t in every thread.

What of the usual suspects? 😂

I know I'm asking too much...

Cremer was called in as a desperation move when the spinners were toothless.

There was no cricket being played, so they didnt hav the luxury of waiting till a good domestic season occured.
