Rainsford has been more poorly treated selection wise then almost anyone of the current generation

Well, Regis was out of the domestic scene in all the reports leading up to the domestic season, so a pleasant surprise to even see him play. I had wanted him to play one full domestic season and score loads of runs to come back as a batsman to the team, and looks like he is on the right track. Vusi, watch out!

And Mark Vermeulen, you had to blow it on 99 :( But still, a great return home...

Raza looks to be in a hurry to pile on the misery, but has to realize that they are still behind the Rhinos, while Mutumbami gets out after yet another valiant knock at Masvingo.

Good to see the tables have turned and the batsman are starting to put some decent scores on the board. Chakabva has always had the ability to bat time but just needs to add a few more strokes to his game to challenge for a national team spot. Vermulen showed how curial experience can be and a shame he did not reach his century.

Would be great for Regis to push on for a double as double hundreds are not something that we regularly come across in terms of a Zimbabwean scoring one.

For the Rhinos great to see Rainsford back in the side and bowling well, he would be in my test squad every time but i am afriad i cant see that happening often.

From the looks of things this match has produced some good tough quality cricket which was needed.

I have concerns over the strength of the Rocks and the Tuskers but think the Rhinos, Eagles and the Mountaineers will have strong sides when the national team players are available.

Great to see Regis making big runs here batting @3 looks like he has given up the gloves and wants to make it as a batsman good luck to him a good season here and he will be into the team as no one apart from Hammi and BRMT are sure starters .....

Mad Mark out for 99 yeah he would have gone nuts still at age 35 is he worth a recall ???

Hope Raza makes a big score we need all national players making big runs in the franchise season .....

I feel the Rhino's will struggle in the bowling as there doesnt seem to be anyone to back up Rainsford and Chinoyua, last year we had Muzhange, Cremer and Muguva to back up the new ball bowlers but we look very thin this year ......

Vusi is the one really hurting Rhinos' prospects atm.

He'll come right eventually. He did score a near List A double ton and a number of high scores in between the ducks and single figures last season as well. I think it's fair to say that every one of our top batsmen would "hurt" their franchise if they were to open. We already have irrefutable evidence(against excellent bowling attacks) that Vusi would dominate the Logan Cup scoring charts if he was batting from 4-6 so that's not a problem. Even the likes of Maruma&Mutumbami would tell you that, and perhaps Mutombodzi, Querl&Mayavo as well. The problem is batsmen dropping down the order(recently Raza, but Chibhabha went back up last season). There is a reason why Tino&Duffin have modest records you know (even Craig Ervine when he commendably tried to be brave last season). Paul Horton also struggled a lot. It's by far the toughest position to bat in the Logan Cup. I recall a recent game when Duffin was injured and had to come in lower last season or is it the one before, but the ease with which he was going about it was "unusual" for an injured man.

Nope, there are no spinner allrounders in "Test cricket"! Recently just ask RobbieP, Johan Botha, Jadeja, Maxwell and young Agar among many others! Plenty in FC though! Young Mutombodzi may not need the step up to Test cricket to figure that out!

Anyway, with Utseya in the XI, and the rain on their side it's pretty clear this match was there for the Eagles' taking.

I would have said that it definitely does! Perhaps not the value of runs or wickets to compare players with each other, but certainly the value of the scores in isolation. Clearly the likes of Taylor and Chakabva (despite his previously modest Logan Cup record) are finding the standard fairly straightforward...


I'm very much with you there. With "weight of runs" I only meant their value to compare players.
