[Zimbabwe Cricket players.]

Zimbabwe Cricket players.

Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Peter Chingoka and managing director Wilfred Mukondiwa met senior players, player representative Eliah Zvimba and the national team technical staff this afternoon.

All the parties at the meeting which was held at the Harare Sports Club agreed to move forward together.

The ZC chairman told the meeting that arrangements have been put in place to pay all the outstanding salaries and match fees.

The players’ representative welcomed the announcement, saying the payment of outstanding dues will remove the sole issue that has been between ZC and the players.

The players will continue practising and a meeting will be held on Monday to set the date for the resumption of the domestic season, which will start with twenty20 matches in preparation for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 tournament that Zimbabwe will compete in, in Bangladesh in March.

The meeting on Monday will also finalise details of the national squad camp to prepare for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

Hope this includes all money owed to franchise staff and domestic only players.

One would like to think that this is the end but i think all members of this forum would bet the majority of their own personal wealth on the players going without pay again within the next 12 months....

My inner sceptic notes that 'arrangements have been put in place to pay' is not the same as 'have been paid'. Not that I would ever expect ZC not to follow through on a promise to pay. Nope.

My instinct tells me they are once again being conned. The next 6 months will see the final looting of the coffers before Zim disappear off the cricketing radar forever.
