Opening post

ZC spokesperson has confirmed the news. The big question is who the replacement is. There is some serious concern that Wilson Manase will take charge, and he is much worse than Chingoka.

Per Cricinfo, Wilson Manase is interim chariman until a permanent replacement is elected.

Can Cremer return to the team in time for the Test against SA?

Who else said they'd return if there was a change in leadership?

Doesn't necessarily help if the 'new' leadership turns out to be the fire to Chingoka's frying pan. If you can even call the current vice-chairman 'new' in the first place.

Just about everyone who left from 2003 onwards.

However, if Manase gets full control, i dont think that would be any better for Zim, might just be even worse.

Lets just hope that the person filling the gap here has some cricketing background

Perhaps get the old rebels willing to help run the game to come back? I think a management consisting of former players is what's needed.

At the moment doesn't bode well......

The cynicals may even say the party is strengthening power on ZC to be able to access US$(ZC will gross US$40million in the next two years) when the country returns to the Z$.

A lot more mess coming through now...

Reactions by former Zimbabwe Cricket vice-chairman Tawengwa Mukuhlani: http://www.dailynews.co.zw/articles/201 ... come-to-zc

Former Zimbabwe Cricket vice-chairman Tawengwa Mukuhlani says the retirement of his former ally Peter Chingoka as ZC boss is inconsequential and does not deliver “real change” to the sport.

Mukuhlani was quick to congratulate new ZC chairman Wilson Manase and offered his support, but said Manase’s ascendancy is only a continuation of the status quo at ZC, which he says was in a serious leadership crisis.

Manase was vice-chairman under Chingoka.

“That Peter is gone is not an issue,” Mukuhlani told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday.

“More is needed in the organisation than just the departure of Peter. When you discard your coach and he gets appointed by Pakistan, when you discard your coach and he gets appointed by Bangladesh, you ask yourself what you are missing. I don’t think we are serious.

“In my view, Peter Chingoka was not supposed to resign now. What I’m saying is, why leave now when you have taken us to a level where we are losing to Afghanistan. How deep can we sink? We now have no justification to Test status when we are losing to an associate member.

“Afghanistan paid for all their costs to tour here. ZC can’t host. When a country that’s war-torn is able to come to Zimbabwe and host itself, not only host itself, but win, is ample proof that we have a serious problem. Whether Peter is gone or continues, for me that’s not the issue. There is a serious crisis at ZC. Whether it’s an administration crisis, financial crisis, technical crisis, there is just a serious crisis at ZC.

“We can sit and celebrate that Peter has left, that he has done a good thing, passed on the baton, but what has been passed? What has remained of ZC? To me its fine, I wish him well as he goes out pursue personal interests. Congratulation Wilson as the new chairman and Maureen Kuchocha as the new vice chair. But chairing what? What are they presiding over? The issue is are we prepared to bring real change to ZC.”

Mukuhlani added that the new changes at ZC was a result of flaws in the association’s constitution.

“The constitution amended in 2006 was meant to be transitional, to allow change to take place. It was designed the way it was because provinces did not have capacity to run themselves. Power was centralised to the national board. Eight years later, are you saying provinces can’t still run themselves? We have six people on the board coming as special appointments, but what have these people done? I’m not at war with anyone, I will support them if they need my support, I am just mentioning things I think must change.”

Mukuhlani lambasted the manner in which ZC was being “run like a friends club”, saying competent personnel have been chucked out in favour of “yes men who do not ruffle feathers.”

“In my opinion, the ZC board needs to make bold decisions, some not popular, but decisions that still have to be made. We need to have the right selectors, the right committees.

“We all don’t need to be friends. Right now you must be good friends to survive in ZC. If you are not good friends, whether you are good or bad, then you can’t be there. Whether it’s the appointment of a coach, the convenor, you need to be acceptable. The issue of acceptability must be a thing of the past.

“We have seen it in the appointment of coaches. We are scared of people who ruffle feathers.

“If the convenor selects a team that loses to Afghanistan, as long as the board members like him, it’s okay. Everyone is sitting pretty, comfortable in their positions, no one is threatened.

“To me that is the issue. When you lose to Afghanistan, the coaches must be fired, the selection panel must be changed, the players must lose their contracts. But it won’t happen here as long as it’s a club of like-minded friends. No one asks questions. You cannot ask questions if you don’t have what it takes to be a board member. Players are not being selected on merit, but no one is ready to ask questions because the players will say you are not competent to be a selector yourself. It’s a circus.”

He has one statement blaming the admin alternating with next statement trying to mend fences. What does he exactly want to say here?

I like him. And he is quite right-i think he has made his point and tried to be diplomatic by blaming all sections. More importantly he raises points that have to have tough questions asked.

Right now you must be good friends to survive in ZC

This is spot on-if your face don't fit forget about working for ZC or a Franchise. In reality because ZC pays for the franchises you are really working for ZC.

I can list countless times when caterers, plumbers, hotels, lodges, electricians have not been paid for months/years and because they have chased their monies owed or even sued. They have then been "blacklisted" from ZC. Dare ask for cash up front and you'll be sidelined-unless of course you are a family member or friend of the board. In fact ZC is run like a schoolyard- the big boys bully the little boys and don't pay or pay late and when challenged are the first to cry foul.

“Afghanistan paid for all their costs to tour here. ZC can’t host. When a country that’s war-torn is able to come to Zimbabwe and host itself, not only host itself, but win, is ample proof that we have a serious problem.

This quote is beautiful, absolute succinct poetry! Well said Tawengwa!!

Eight years later, are you saying provinces can’t still run themselves?

Hahahahahahahahaha this is hilariously correct- take Matland province where the sponsor boards are all blank, the public unwilling to get involved-WHY?Well simply because the current admin and especially the CEO are incompetent, more importantly the CEO is not known in town as a business man but as a "crook" any sponsorship must be passed through him first and the majority refuse to sponsor "as long as that man is in charge". Smash, that's why only 300 people pitched up to watch the International.

competent personnel have been chucked out in favour of “yes men who do not ruffle feathers.”

Well Brent out Makoni in(still i laugh at this, at the ridiculousness of it-but then again after Maloneys "pants down" spat i guess i was right and he is bigger than PC, clearly Maloney won that battle)Streak out, Flower out. Then at franchise level, anyone who comes in and does things properly for the financial good of the company is slowly chucked out the door- because of course back handers must be paid first.

I mean surely if a province like Tuskers or Mashland cannot support itself then clearly the CEO is/has failed in their job and should be sacked!!??? That is why they are clearly not running a business ZC but jobs for their friends.

I'd better stop now

Sorry just thought i'd post this from the Zim website- should see the crazy stuff they write about integrity, teamwork, excellence etc

The 13 member ZC board continues to provide the highest level of strategic guidance and governance to the organization. By setting policy, the board is ultimately accountable and responsible for the performance and affairs of ZC. It operates by delegating authority to the board committees and management. Decision making is on consensus.
