Opening post

The BCB has just announced plans for a 4 nation ODI series in November with Pakistan, WI, and ZIM. However Pak and WI have FTP engagements in November so I think this is merely an ambitious Pipedream at the moment.

Looks like this tour may be happening in May, 3 ODIs and 2T20s

Cricket-starved Pakistani fans may finally get a reprieve as talks for a possible tour by Zimbabwe entered its final phase, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) director media Amjad Hussain said on Wednesday.

Officials from the PCB and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) met during the World Cup with the African side expressing an interest in touring Pakistan later this year.

“I have met with the chief executive of the Zimbabwe cricket union and we discussed the revival of international cricket in Pakistan. He told me they were interested in a reciprocal series with Zimbabwe wanting to send a team in May,” team manager Naved Akram Cheema told reporters in Adelaide in March.

It seems now that a tour is very much on and an agreement is likely to be inked at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Dubai next week.

According to Hussain, a three-match ODI series and two T20s have been proposed but the duration of the tour will be finalised when PCB chairman Shahryar Khan meets his Zimbabwe counterpart.

The Future Tours Programme (FTP) is no more a central agreement between the ICC and its members. From this year onward, bilateral agreements between member nations and boards will decide on future tours.

Since the deadly attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009, only non-Test-playing Kenya and Associates Afghanistan have visited Pakistan.

Pakistan and Zimbabwe last faced off in Zimbabwe two years ago with the with coach Dav Whatmore at the helm.

Whatmore has now taken that position with Zimbabwe and it is being speculated that the 61-year-old may have played a role in convincing ZC about the security situation in Pakistan.

What could convince anyone of the security situation in Pakistan? No one knows what is going to happen there, the place is a powder-keg and has only got worse since the Sri Lankan team was attacked.

Yeah, I think it's risky too eugene. As such...

... a three-match ODI series and two T20s have been proposed...

There better be some bloody good compensation. ZC hold all the bargaining chips because nobody else is willing to go there - not even Bangladesh. I don't expect it (obviously), but they should play hard ball. If PCB want a limited overs series on Pakistan soil, then they need to host Zimbabwe for a full series in UAE (3 Tests, 5 ODIs) and also a short tour of Zimbabwe (maybe 2 Tests, 3 ODIs). Take it or leave it I'd say.

Poor old Zimbabwean cricketers always getting the d**k, with everything they've been through now they have to tour a war torn terriost ridden country like Pakistan ......

I bet BRMT is liking his decision to head to the old dart now ......

I'm not so sure. Pakistan have hosted a lot of their own domestic cricket, Kenya and Afghanistan. Zimbabwe are not much more high profile, to be honest. All efforts will be made to keep the players safe. This sounds like good news to me...

If this tour does go ahead then I can see an under strength Zimbabwean side going. I don't think all of the guys will want to go to Pakistan.

Really pointless tour. Does the PCB really think that a successful tour by ZIM will suddenly make ECB and CA say "hmm, we need to cancel the Ashes and play a 7 test series in PAK asap!"

The PCB have tried to blackmail the BCB to tour and that would achieve nothing. SL have thought about touring PAK and that might be a starting point. Even then only might. The fact is PAK is not safe to tour for anyone and won't be for the forsaeeble future. The white developled countries (ENG, NZ, AUS, maybe SA) will never tour PAK. At best the Asian teams and the likes of WI and ZIM might come but that is far far away.

And if anything happens god forbid...no one will tour PAK ever. Its a lose-lose situation for PCB and the fact that they keep desperately clinging to it illustrates how out of touch with reality they are.
