Congratulations to the affable Dean du Plessis, who got married over the weekend: http://dailynews.co.zw/article/Sport/af ... 9c79f7e75e

HARARE - Leading Zimbabwean cricket writer and broadcaster Dean du Plessis is now a married man, but he only had his wedding ring for two days before a strong wave on the beach during honeymoon swept the bling into the sea!

The 36-year-old walking encyclopaedia, a Daily News and Daily News on Sunday columnist and cricket writer, tied the knot with Harare lass Louis Loades last weekend in an intimate ceremony in the capital.

The couple, who got engaged a year ago, exchanged vows in front of a handful of guests.

“It went really well, it was a fabulous day,” Dean told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday from the Ballito Bay resort in Durban, where he is enjoying his honeymoon with 26-year-old Louise.

“As for me and my wife Louise, it was a wedding most people dream about. The love we have is also what a lot of people want to have. It’s deep love.”

Du Plessis, who was born blind, will however have to get a new ring when the couple returns home to Harare next week after the symbol of his love for Louise disappeared into the Indian Ocean.

“We went for our first swim on the beach and there was a big wave,” he explained.

“It took my wedding ring off my finger! I knew it! I knew the ring was a little too big. I thought about removing it, but I made a vow. So technically I was married for just two days. When we come back we will get a new one. I think it went under the sand. The waves are quite strong in this area.

“So the sea in South Africa has something of me it will keep forever.”
