Opening post

Really hope Simbarashe Gupo has a successful season this year. We have a shortage of good openers, plus he seems to have talent; just needs to start scoring runs when it matters. :)

The league is quite competetive this year as there is serious involvement of Franchise and National team players who are trying to secure contracts for the Franchise season

I will try and get a full set of Stats that would be of use to the forum

Old Hararians narrowly loses to Harare Sports Club

Old Hararians Sports Club lost by 9 runs to Harare Sports Club at nail biting that was played at Harare Sports Club yesterday. Having won the toss and elected to bat , the hosts put up a target of 212 runs after 44.1 overs. Simbarashe Gupo opened with the bat and scored a first wicket partnership of 68 runs off 73 balls, with the Zimbabwe National Team opening batsman Tinotenda Mawoyo, (Tino) who was later run out after a mix up with Gupo for 44 runs off 44 balls by Mash eagles All rounder Cephas Zhuwao in 13th Over, hitting a total of 5 fours and 1 six. Gupo was however caught out off a ball that was delivered by Ryan Butterworth for 57 runs off 68 balls in the 28th over, hitting a total of 5 fours and 1 six. Former Zimbabwe National Team all rounder Ryan Butterworth was at the peak of Old Hararians`s bowling attack, taking 4 wickets for 34 runs after bowling 7.1 overs while Cephas Zhuwao took 2 wickets for 39 runs after bowling 8 overs.

In reply, Old Hararians`s team Captain Saed Khan managed to score 43 runs off 60 balls before he was caught behind by Creig Dollar off a ball that was delivered by Mark Mbofana leaving Old Hararians with 20 runs to win from 10 overs with 3 wickets in hand. Seed Khan managed build up a sixth wicket partnership of 76 runs off 114 balls with Kyle Hopper which rescued Old Hararians Innings, which had crumbled to 110 runs for 6 wickets. However this was not enough as Kyle Hopper was caught out by Tino Mawoyo for 24 runs off a ball that was delivered by Harare Sports Club off spinner Benjamin Bernet, dismissing all the shreds of hope of winning that had been embedded in hearts of Old Hararians` players and supporters. In the end ,Mash Eagles Seamer Mark Mbofana took 4 wickets for 31runs after bowling 10 overs while Benjamin Bernett took 2 wickets for 31 runs after bowling 7,3 overs for Harare Sports Club, earning them a much awaited nail biting victory of 9 runs in the 43rd over.

— with Kenneth Gombe and 4 others.
