Chakabva to captain Zimbabwe A in a warm-ups against Afghanistan

The national selectors have announced the Zimbabwe A squad for the two warm-up one-day matches against the Afghanistan senior men’s side.

Wicket-keeper batsman Regis Chakabva will captain the 14-man squad for the matches that will be played at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on the 13th and 15th of July.

The senior side will then take over to host Afghanistan in four One-Day International (ODI) matches at the Queens Sports Club, also in Bulawayo.

After that, the tour will move to Harare where Zimbabwe A will play Afghanistan in two four-day matches at the Country Club. The first four-dayer starts on the 27th of July and the second on the 2nd of August.

In preparation, national coach Andrew Waller is working with a group of 31 players, helped by assistant national coach Stephen Mangongo and Zimbabwe A coach Walter Chawaguta.

The Afghanistan tour of Zimbabwe which runs until the 5th of August will mark the start of what will be a busy international period for Zimbabwe’s senior players.

On the last day of the second four-dayer, South Africa will arrive in Zimbabwe for a one-off Test match at Harare Sports Club (HSC) and three ODI matches at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

On the eve of the last Zimbabwe-South Africa ODI, Australia will be landing in Harare to join them in a triangular ODI series which will be at the HSC. The triangular will end with a final on the 6th of September.

Before the year ends, both the Zimbabwe senior and A sides will tour Bangladesh.

Cant really argue with the squad and good to see that Regis is back in the mix. I would probably go for the following line up:

1. Brian Chari

2. Jaylord Gumbie

3. Richmond Mutumbambi (WK)

4. Regis Chakabva

5. Roy Kaia

6. Forster Mutizwa

7. Tino Mutumbodzi

8. Luke Jongwe

9. Bright Mugochi

10.Gumunyu-Manatsa

11. Michael Chinouya

Squad seems light on batsman but can't really complain ....

Guess this means none of these guys will be in the ODI matches .....

Good to see both Jongwe and Gumbie in the 'A' squad but I feel that Waller should've been playing in these warm up matches as well.
