Does anyone know about Solomon Mire? How long has he been in Australia and who does he play for? Does he have a contract with this team? Is he a dual national or is he doing time in order to qualify? If it's the latter he can't afford to be away for too long. I wonder if his club contracts him seasonally or annually? Whatever his club contract is, it is likely that it's better than what may/is being offered by ZC. I like him, he looks handy and he's a competitor. A commentator made a very valid point, he pointed out that an abundance of talent was possibly less important than doggedness and determination. When people have this discussion Steve Waugh and Gary Kirsten are always used as an example. Their limited shot range and determination and patience in waiting for those balls ensured them great success, particularly in the long formats. What I see in our players is poor shot selection. This is actually at every level, from schoolboy through to club, franchise and national players. At schoolboy level it's because we lack decent coaching (apologies to the good coaches) and we don't play enough games for youngsters to get into a mode where they can occupy the crease and learn their games. Our club and franchise stuff is not competitive enough and most players don't work hard enough at their batting to retain places because there's no-one in the wings at club and u19 level waiting to take their places. I've watched a lot of practice sessions at all levels and there are only a few players here that can go 20 minutes without making a mistake, it's very poor as that's in a practice environment with no real pressure. T20 has also confused the lesser players and they struggle to adjust between formats. Bowling has also improved and a guy with a very limited shot range just won't get too many balls in his areas. I see low percentage shots played way too often in this country and the aerial route also used too often. Again this is brought about because of T20 and because fielding has improved so much that a fielder can cover 20-40m meters either side of him with ease, meaning smaller gaps. The game has really evolved in recent years and it's great. Bad news about Phil Hughes!! They really have to improve helmets. Where he was hit is very common as the players instinctively turn and duck and expose the unprotected part behind the ear. It would be easy to install a bar across here that did not interfere with mobility. That's my ramble for the day.
