Opening post

hiii guys ..i am from india and new to this group ..have been following activities on this group since long time and finally decided to join it today ..i am a hardcore supporter of zimbabwe cricket team since the days of andy flower streak and taibu ..unfortunately zimbabwe could not hold on to their best players ..anyway coming to the current situation with brendan taylor out of the set up .who do you think should be in playing XI .the biggest disadvantage which i feel due to the loss of taylor is not just his batting but his option as a wicketkeeper too ..just imagine when u will need to fit mutambambi for ervine only cause he is a wicketkeeper ..sounds disastourous ..how good is conventry's keeping ? finally what should b the playing 11 i would go with this if ofcourse coventry keeps

Vusi

Chamu

hami

Ervine (he is not good in slog overs ..so push him up the order unlike the WC)

williams

Raza

Choppa

chigs

cremer

mpofu

panyangara

I would be hesitant to play with only 2 specialist seamers again .......

As much as like Chigs and I think he can be a good bowler he just isn't cutting it atm .....

I'd probably go with this side atm .....

Chamu

Raza

Hami

Vusi

Williams

Ervine

Coventry

Chigs

Vitori

Panyangara

Mpofu

Willy and Raza to bowl the spin, maybe could bring in Cremer for Chamu or Vusi if the batting fires, just think we need some depth now BRMT isn't there ......

Welcome to the forum Tej.

Only room for one of Chibhabha or Sibanda in the ODI team I think. I guess we have to accept that neither of them are going to kick on and become regular century makers, so the question is who is more likely to score a half-century on any given day? I'd go with Sibanda.

Sibanda

Raza

Masakadza

Williams

Ervine

Coventry (wk)

Chigumbura (c)

Cremer

Vitori

Panyangara

Mpofu

For the T20's:

Chibhabha

Raza

Masakadza

Coventry

Sibanda

Mutumbami (wk)

Chigumbura (c)

Cremer

Vitori

Mupariwa

Panyangara

I don't think Mutumbami is necessarily a better T20 batsman than Ervine (although there's probably not a lot in it, Ervine has been struggling of late), but there's no harm giving him extra experience at international level. Chakabva's got the Test spot sewn up, so we have to give Mutumbami opportunities somehow.

If the series happens, not sure how we'll fare in the ODI's (Pakistan are such a hot and cold team). But we've got plenty of firepower in the T20 batting lineup. Chibhabha, Raza, Masakadza, Coventry and Chigumbura are all capable of 20 ball 50's IMO. We could give it a shake.

We have to figure out the captaincy situation. Chigumbura is not an automatic selection IMO, so him having the captaincy is a worry.
has there been any official statement on why Mire isnt touring?

Actually, Coventry's been picked as a T20 specialist. He won't feature in the ODI series........

If Coventry scores anything of note in the T20's he'll play the ODIs.

Like how Craig Ervine was only selected for the ODI squad in the West Indies in 2013, but he scored a few runs and found himself in the Test team.

Yeah, didn't think of that.....

This is what Whatmore said :

"Coventry is back specifically for the T20 team and has been playing really well, and Graeme Cremer can be a big value add and has settled in beautifully."

Coventry :

I can't go back to Zimbabwe permanently because I have a full-time job but I jumped at the chance to be involved somehow, especially with 20-over cricket," Coventry explained. It's not very dissimilar to the many freelance T20 cricketers who play across various premier leagues, but are limited to one country. "My plan is to go up a few days beforehand when there is a series, train with the squad and play a few games. I also plan to play in the Zimbabwe domestic T20 competition."

hi teja.. now a days i m in punjab.
i would want coventry in both one dayers and T20 anyway luks like we will have to wait till india visits zimbabwe as this tour is more likely to be cancelled

Not sold on Coventry besides the 194 he never really light up the world. A bit inconsistent for me much like Vusi. But I reckon he keeps a bit that would give us room to play both Vusi and Chibhabha in the T20s while dropping Mutumbami.
