ZCF Hall of Famer

Opening post

Mash A / County Districts / Academy would strongly imply by the name that they were a 2nd-class team to Eagles - a 2nd franchise should be on level ground, so nope to them. Takashinga's a club side and has no place in the franchise tier (unless you want some sort of promotion-relegation deal between the franchises and the National League, which on paper wouldn't be a bad plan, but there's too much of a skill gap down to the club sides generally), so nope to that too.

Harare Metros?

Harare Capitals?

...although they sound too baseball'y.

Since the African Fish Eagle is the national bird (and presumably the inspiration for Eagles' name), let's pair that with the national land animal, and go for Mashonaland Sables. With apologies to the national rugby team.

All horrible,

Its got to be something like 'West Harare Silverbacks' or something along those lines.

They tend to have africa-centric logos, and the geographical name has to rep' the area but be a point of difference from Mashonaland.

i thought they were going to relocate the mountaineers?

Yeah, but no mountains in Harare. And 'Harare Kopje' lacks a certain grandeur.

Being a Harare boy myself this sounds so nice. Or something like Harare Renegades.

Harare Hustlers would make a good zim gangsta rap crew name.

Harare Wildcats could be a likely name too.

There was no need to change anything to begin with. The fact that they became a franchise setup never necessitated the need to renames side per se. Just stick to African sounding names so it's clear to everyone that it is Zimbabwe (or Mzansi) not elsewhere. They may be city based but it's not as prejudiced as Manyika, Mashona, Matebele etc tribal connotations.

Mashonaland Eagles - Harare

New team - Chitungwiza

Mountaineers - Mutare

Midwest Rhinos - Kwekwe

Matabeleland Tuskers - Bulawayo

Southern Rocks - Masvingo

India have Kerala, Tripula, Hyderabad, Delhi, Odisha etc. Pakistan have Sialkot, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur etc. Barring colonial sites, Sri Lanka maintain Badureliya, Sinhalese, Ragama, Colombo etc with just the Sports/Cricket Club linked to it.

It's Zimbabwe, Africa. Use native names and be done with it. All these naming conventions with with an exotic link or fancy endings e.g. Rebels, Renegades, Tridents, Titans, Cobras, Howlers, Hustlers, Wildcats (Hippopotamuses takes the cake :? ) etc shouldn't have a place here, otherwise it amounts to subconscious self-colonisation mentally and perpetuating that cancer.

Sometimes guys even want kits which look like their preferences. Some of the well liked old Zim kits are just ugly in my opinion. Different tastes from a local and overseas perspective. West, East, South & Central Africa - we have our own kind of fashion which is very nice and unique. That's how the kits should look like.

Is a hippopotamus not an African animal ?

Hey HHM, Im with you on the african nicknames, thats why i suggested silverbacks (as in gorilla) and Wildcats (cheetah, lions etc, although both those individual animals are so overdone and more suited to speed and powersport).

Hustler was inspired by the indigenous government in Zimbabwe.

So how about Shumba (lion)? I don't know what gorilla and cheetah is in Shona.
