So how about Shumba (lion)? I don't know what gorilla and cheetah is in Shona.
Shumbas works.
I dont speak any black so couldnt help the others, but silverbacks has a certain edge to it.
Similar to teams that call themselves razorbacks as opposed to pigs.

Indomitable lions, the Lions of the Teranga, lion this, lion that, elephants and whatnot. As a biologist, I take exception to the fact that some animals seem to be of greater worth than others in the naming of sports teams.
Where are the shivering bushbabies , the scuttling cockroaches, the tenacious tardigrades, etc.? Only Uganda (the cranes) and Bénin (the squirrels) have names which aren't overly pretentious.
I vote for the Highveld dungbeetles as the new franchise name.

😂 Calls from as far as the outback have asked for the recognition of other species, hippopotamuses to be specific, so your concerns have been addressed.
In keeping with your suggestion, I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of encrouaging proposals put forward, although I'm not sure tardigrades will qualify now that Andy+Grant Flower, Trevor Gripper, Guy Whittal & Taibu have retired. ;)
Is Evolutionary Biology your strong point?
