Should Zimbabwe accept the reality that we're no good at LOI

I'm very disappointed after that ODI series :evil:

Cremer 6.5/10 (extra for his fielding), Panyangara, Jongwe and Chigumbura all 6/10. Everyone else basically rubbish.

It seems like we are trying to juggle too many different balls at once here.

- Qualifying for the 2019 World Cup

- Trying to do something (?) with Twenty20

- Trying to end up not losing to Ireland in a 5-day game when the time comes

1) 2019 WC seems like a lost cause I'm sad to say. 4 years is a long time and I hope we turn it around but it's not looking great. It was going to be tough even if we had our strongest team. If the best we're hoping to achieve is to scrape over the line against Afghanistan or Ireland in a qualifying tournament - which doesn't look very likely on current form - it's pretty sad.

2) T20's we are terrible at. They aren't all that important anyway to be honest, Zimbabwe will always make the top 16 (we're not that bad thankfully) so there's not really much point wasting any time on this.

3) So the third point... do well enough in Tests that either we don't have to play the Intercontinental Cup winner in a few years; or be good enough at Tests that whoever we play we are comfortably better than.

So why not just shift our focus to Test cricket? Stop trying to be "not the worst" at everything, and accept we are the worst at ODIs and T20Is. But maybe we have a chance at being not the worst at Tests? Stop playing meaningless ODI series. If Pakistan want to host Zimbabwe on their own turf then they can bloody well schedule some Tests next time. If Bangladesh want someone to fill in because other teams refuse to travel, well make it a Test series or find someone else. There are financial realities we have to accept, so if it means playing 2 Tests + 1 Twenty20 or 2 Tests + 3 ODIs then I guess you have to do it but perhaps the scheduling of Tests should be paramount.

For the Zimbabwe home season, again focus more on Tests (3 Tests per home season?). Schedule a 6 match ODI tri-series + a solitary T20I to satisfy commercial requirements and for the fans.

Of course, this post is not being very serious. Give it a few weeks and let the disappointment wear off and we'll all be longing for the next ODI series. But on a semi-serious note, should we start shifting our focus more to Tests and away from one-day stuff given that the format we least disgrace ourselves in is Test cricket. Yet we haven't played a single Test in 2015 - it's a disgrace.
